Bosch WAQ283S1GB & Sealed Drums

Hi,

My gf and I need a new washing machine as our Hoover has decided to take up smoking! We’ve more or less decided on a bosch, at around the £300 mark.

There’s a good deal on the Avantixx WAQ283S1GB at £349, which although is a little over our budget it has some good features like Eco Silent motor and Aqua Plus (so that our clothes are actually rinsed properly). We have an open plan kitchen/living room area and quietness would be appreciated and as an Avantixx model I gather it’s not one of Bosch’s entry level models. Any thoughts on this model?

The only hesitation i’m having about this model and other Bosch’s is the drum – Is it sealed on this model? We’ve had a bra strap stuck in an old washing machine and i’d really like to be able to have a go at fixing it should this happen again. What is the definitive answer as to which Bosch machines have sealed drums? I’ve read conflicting advice, some saying the WAQ range is the only Bosch model with a sealed drum, others saying only the Classixx range has a sealed drum.

Also considering WAK28260GB which is £299 at Currys. Doesn’t have Aqua Plus, but could always run an extra rinse & spin cycle. This model is also inexplicably quieter (73db) when spinning, despite not being an Eco Silent motor and only 2db louder when washing, compared to the WAQ model.

Could anyone please help confirm exactly what Bosch models have a sealed drum?
Why are some of the cheaper models quieter than the more expensive units that have the Eco silent motor?

You can check all Bosch models (by individual model number) on their dedicated spare parts website. Exploded parts diagrams shown clearly whether or not the model you want has or hasn’t got a sealed drum.

Thanks Martin, I didn’t realise they would allow consumers access to parts diagrams.

I’ve found there are two variants for the WAQ283S1GB machine, though the diagram appears to be the same. I’ve attached the diagram, is there any chance you could help illustrate what I need to look for please?
