ParticipantGood afternoon,
Grateful for any help with this:
I have a Bosch WAS28461GB/07 which loses all power mid-way through any wash hotter than 40°c.
The machine gets half way through the cycle, seems to reach the required temperature (judging by feel), washes for 5 or 10 minutes and then just switches off.
No error code on the display, no nothing.I’ve tried a 90° cotton wash, a 60° cotton wash and a 60° ‘Easy Care’ wash and all exhibit the same problem.
The same washes at 40° run all the way through with no problems.Once it’s stopped, in order to get it going again, I have to switch it off for a couple of minutes and select a lower temperature wash. If I try and resume the same program, it switches off again after a few minutes.
I’ve resigned myself to changing either the control board or the power board, but I haven’t actually done any diagnonsis other than the real basics above.
Is there anything else I should try before I start buying spares?
Which is the most likely failed component from the description of the fault please?
I was under the impression that this was a good machine, so I’m a little annoyed it’s done this after a pretty easy life, but I figure it’s worth repairing…
Thanks for any help/pointers/tips.
Andy

1st thing to check with a multimeter is resistance on the heater and the ntc that sits in the heater I would guess 1 of these will be faulty definitely not a control board issue if machine works fine on 40 degrees wash

Thanks for those suggestions.
I’ve tested the element and it measures 26.8 ohms, and the NTC measures 4.71 on the 20k setting (I think this means 4710 ohms). This reading fell when I held it in my palm and warmed it up.
Are these about right?July 25, 2018 at 6:53 am #456918Martin

For the program to shut down in this way indicates to me a power module problem. Careful examination of the surface components on the board may show a capacitor with a domed cap or maybe a dry joint or even a burnt resistor?

Good idea. I haven’t done that yet, because as a test today I decided to run a hot (60°c) wash and it did the usual shut down half way through.
This time I left it, whereas before I intervened.
It actually resumed after about an hour without me doing anything.
Is it possible that the warmer washes are causing a thermal cut-out somewhere to cut in, which then resets once the temperature drops?
This fault has only happened since the warmer weather we’re having, which may support the thermal cut-out theory? Or I could be talking nonsense…
Any input welcome!July 26, 2018 at 8:03 pm #456920Martin

Indicative of a power supply failure. If the machine stops during a power cut, once the power is restored it will carry on where it left off. So dodgy wall socket or power lead or mains filter problems the prime suspects.
