ParticipantThis machine is 3 years old and the bearings appears to be shot, loud rumbling noise, lots of play in the drum.
Needless to say that the owner was less than thrilled. I had a look on the spare parts list, it appears to be a sealed drum (?). For a new tank is @£160, has anyone come across this? Does anyone know where to get cheaper tank? Anyway, she bought a new Bosch washer like for like, such a forgiving customer isn’t she? But I still would like to know where I can get cheaper tank for myself.
Lastly. I can’t understand how can a £400 washer to have failed bearings after such a light use (two retired couples using twice a week) for 3 years in hard water area? The owner doesn’t skimp on cheap washing detergent, she uses well known brand like Persil, Ariel and the likes. Is there a link on low temperature washing and liquid detergent having an effect on metal fatigue?
I do know that Costco liquid tabs are very corrosive and have a tendency to cause holes in clothes, they are suitable for cold washes. Maybe the large drum causing more wear on the clothes? I know this is off topic but it makes me wonder if other brands are similar. Besides the subject on bearings and tank still stand….as I have her machine in my possession and I would have liked to refurbish it for ‘er indoors. Induction motor and quiet drain pump swayed my decision to replace the Hoover noisy brush motor and ever so loud drain pump, this machine was given by a customer after owning it 18 months and the reason for it was too difficult to operate.

Were they made to self destruct after a year’s out of guarantee? I expected that from budget brands but not from Bosch if you purchased for £400, in hindsight, the customer would be better off with Hotpoint induction motor type as they would last marginally longer for less than £300. Somehow those 10 years free parts guarantee seems attractive after three years of use, still cheaper to pay Hotpoint to come out to replace the tub rather than buying a new washer.
I’m gonna have to review on how I sell my washers to the customers. Everybody wants a Miele but don’t want to pay for one. I’m left with Bosch, LG and Hotpoint. I might as well tell my customer to take a pick of any brand to their fancy as I can’t really vouch for the quality on any of it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of modern Bosch appliances. If you can buy a sealed tub sub £160 then good luck on that.

4 people using various brands of detergent in hard water, twice a week, various mixed loads, 3 yrs use before bearings flunk out, sounds par for the course. What possessed them to replace like for like defies logic but at least that 2year guarantee will offer some degree of security for them and put you in the clear.
If you get a chance to butcher open the sealed drum you will immediately spot why the bearings failed so easily. I guarantee you will see a dramatic build up of detergent/limescale AND clothing fibres in the immediate area of the water seal. Loose and broken cotton threads from towels, human hair, pet hair gather like a magnet in that area. Often caked thick on the drum spigot as well as. Ramp up the spin speed and in no time the bearings yeald to the pressure.
If fact the causes of failure between the unsealed and sealed drum is pretty much identical. The former suits the repairer, the latter suits the manufacturer especially so when they go out and by another….win win! 😉

Bosch have had problems with WAQ Range. Tell customer to contact Bosch, they are offering a 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount on repair. You could push for more I suppose. Problem now cured apparently.

The said washing machine is in my possession with the view to repair, supposedly my wife could contact Bosch to get a repair on the ground she was given it? Or can the trade get cheaper tank for the machine via Bosch direct?

If the machine was registered by the original owners BSH would have those details including the suppliers name.
Most BSH registered traders have a 10 to 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} trade discount on spare parts.

The frustration is that most of the customers resigned the fact that the machines were not as it used to be and simply went out to buy a new one. While this is not a safety issue, but it’s a simple case of poor workmanship and now you are saying the replacement tank is an improved version of the former. How do we know it is the improved version as it could happen again?
Mind you the tank is a special order and it would be some time before I can get my hands on it, which was why the customer went out to buy a new one.
