ParticipantHi there can’t get the washing machine to drain (by running a cycle or selecting drain). So far I’ve checked grey waste hose, pump filter, large black waste (between drum and pump with the ball float) and nothing obstructing flow. I currently have the pump removed which is an Askoll M50 292029 0.22A 30W.
My question is am I likely to have dead/faulty pump (I can’t see anything obstructing the impellor), or could the problem lie with the water level switch? I haven’t tried to remove the small ribbed black hose that runs up to the pressure switch or the small white plastic bottle that connects to the black waste – these both seems quite tight
We did 5 loads of washing one after the other and it stopped working on the last one and hasn’t worked since.
Please Help!!!!

ParticipantWhat happens if you select the drain cycle when there’s water in the appliance ?
Does the water drain ?
Can you hear the pump running or is there just a faint hum coming from the pump ?
Does the drain hose sit in a standpipe or connected under the sink ?January 8, 2009 at 8:04 pm #273186Highlandreid

Hi there
With the washer full of water, and selecting drain, nothing happens for around 15 seconds then there is a slight hum then I can’t remember if it gets to the end or F04. Either way no water comes out of the waste hose
It’s normally connected into a standpipe, although I’ve tried directly into the sink next to it and a bucket on the side.
I’ve manually drained it twice, but still comes back to F04 halfway through the wash cycle or a rinse cycle.
Any ideas??

With the machine empty, remove filter and, using a torch, look right back into the impellor and see if it’s jammed. Kirby grips, 5ps, hairbobbles and the like are all small enough to get through the filter and jam it.
If it’s clear, check that the impellor moves correctly. It should move freely, then resist and “ping” over each quarter of a revolution. If it feels stiff, it’s knackered and will need replacing. P/no 144484 – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly if required.

Hi thanks for the reply.
I’ve already removed the pump, there’s definately no blockages here and looking at it on my desk it doesn’t look like there’s anything wrapped around it. It seems to turn OK, i.e free, harder to turn, then free as you describe.

Test meter – you should get 190-230 ohms through the coil.

Measured it as ~163 ohm.
Time for a new pump?

Hi everyone bought new pump, fitted and everything working again. Thanks for all your help.
The old pump was definately stiffer and didn’t have the same springyness as the new one.
Cheers

ParticipantHi, havve the same problems as above – have checked the filter at the front, nothing there and check the spinning thing – no problems ther. Have taken off the big black hose with the ball and stopper and now cannot get it all back together.
First question – was the pump expnsive
Second – was it easy to fit
and thirdly – know any good washing machine repairers? Derby area. Thanks

Pump was about £45 last time I checked. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to price it exactly and supply.
Fitting is quite straight forward if you remove the plug and the front panel. Three screws for the panel, two for the door lock, release teh springbamd for the door seal and it will pull away. Pretty obvious from there when you can see everything.

Thank you for the info but I think I will be calling an engineer. Can’t even get the black hose back on properly…..I may take up a new career in appliance engineering – though I have managed to break two nails so maybe not!!!

Hi,
I wondered if commenters can explain the behaviour of my Bosch WFX2868:
F04 is displayed when the mc starts to drain. If switched to off, mains off then on again, then switched to spin > start, mc drains, spins, and clean washing can come out of mc.So F04 only occurs at end of a full wash cycle.
My investigations continue.
Any views appreciated.
Thanks,

I’ve had a similar problem with Bosch machines before. I would definitely test heater just to eliminate that
Worth a try and only takes 20 seconds to test
