ParticipantHi, my 2 year old Bosch washer is giving me F04 error everytime it tries to pump. I’ve had the thing to pieces and there’s nothing in the filter, the anti syphon bottle or any of the pipes leading in or out of the pump. This happened last week and after a manual drain and a stern talking to it started working again, but even threats aren’t working now. Has the pump had it? Or maybe it’s the electronics that control the pump? When i got it working before the pump seemed to work perfectly and not make any nasty noises? I don’t want to throw good money after bad, so should i try to replace the pump or shall i just buy another (non-Bosch!) machine and have done with it? Any help appreciated guys….

F04 IS A DRAIN OUT FAULT
is your machine
a. draining slowly causing the error to appear
b. not draining at all when the error appears
if it is then you may have a blockage in the sump hose or waste pipe
if it is b then it could still be a blockage or more likely the pump has had it, pumps are fairly cheap parts and generally easy to fit so well worth a try if you are not confident to do it yourself then there is a link on this site for an engineer to call to you.
also why buy a non bosch machine?
most pump faults are the result of a foreign object doing da,age and not the fault of the machine
let me know how you get on:)September 16, 2006 at 3:15 pm #188747BrokenBoschNick

thanks. It’s not drainig at all, when i put it on a drain cycle it just makes a kind of quiet straining buzzing noise, that sounds a bit like a knackered electric motor. I’ll try a new pump. I’m feeling a bit anti-bosch as i paid a fair bit of cash for it thinking it would last.

Just had a look at shop@ and couldn’t find my model number (WFX3267GB) under the three available Bosch pumps. Does anyone know which pump works with my machine?

hi
bosch part number for pump is 144305
before purchasing a new pump remove the filter and run machine on drain while looking at the pump to see if it is working ( keep fingers out ).
if it is it making the sound you mention (quiet buzzing) the buzzing usually indicates it is trying to work and something is stopping it. have a good look at the impellor (white or green cross like thing) it is not uncommon for something to wrap aroud the back of it and jam it up (usually an elastic band or string), do not remove the impellor as they wil not go back on, you would have to strip the pump down to remove the string/elastic band.

linrew you rock! I gave the impeller a shove with the drain hose and it started spinning. I’m not really sure what noise it should make, but it sounds like it could have something wrapped behind it. I’ll have a go at stripping the pump tomorrow and let you know how i get on. Thanks for your help.

I am almost certain this will result in you replacing the pump.

i fear you’re right DDSDDS. I got the pump out, removed the black housing and ran it hanging out of the machine. It buzzed and moaned and when i gave the impeller a shove it started spinning again. Tried it a few more times and it behaved the same. There’s no sign of anything wrapped round the impeller and there doesn’t seem any way of breaking the pump down further. We had problems with our drains backing up recently and i suspect the poor old pump motor took a battering.
I’ll buy the new pump and give that a go, but it looks like this will solve my problem. Thanks a lot for your help guys, i was on the point of throwing the machine out in a huff.

water and lectricity is a dangerous mix, just ask us and we will tell you what shocks are like.
i have a regular customer who is terrified to go in the kitchen when the washer is running as his father opened the lid of a washer and touched the innards while still plugged in, he died washing machines are dangerous when live!!

Just to complete this post, i changed the pump and it all works perfectly now. As the pump that I bought from Shop@ was £25 I expected it to be a pattern part but it was the same manufacturer as the OEM part being replaced – what a great website! Thanks a lot for your help guys.
