ParticipantHello.
I purchased a new Bosch WAN28201GB/23 last week. Immediately after delivery I took the bits and bobs out of the drum and manually span the drum with a flick and found it would stop after a short distance. If I slowly and continuously rotated with my hand, it occasionally felt like it was rubbing or catching on something. It didn’t take much effort at all to get past these points, but I continued to run into them as I kept rotating.
This was right after delivery; I had not installed it, turned it on or taken out the transport locks at this point. As I looked through the set up guide and learned about the transport locks (this is the first machine I’ve owned personally) I hoped they might be the cause of the stiffness. However, after removing the transport locks and installing the machine, the drum still behaves in the same way. I’m now slightly concerned that manually rotating it as I did with the transport locks may have damaged it…?
Since installing it, I have run 5 or 6 programmes and haven’t noticed any issues with them. It seems to spin ok during the programmes. But I’ve not paid a great deal of attention and I’m far from an expert on washing machines! So I wouldn’t like to rule out subtle problems that I just haven’t noticed. The stiffness when manually spinning (e.g. to make sure I’ve emptied it completely) persists.
I finally got round to ringing Bosch today – my intention just to find out if this behaviour is normal or an indication of a fault. Unfortunately they didn’t really give me a straightforward answer. They suggested it might be worth getting an engineer to have a look under the 2 year warranty, but that if they sent one out and they didn’t find a fault or it was set up incorrectly then it would cost me £99. Because of my worry about spinning it before installing, I’m a bit nervous.
They suggested I could just monitor it for ‘real’ issues – e.g. failure to spin during programmes, strange noises, etc. I agreed for the time being.
So my questions for this forum are:
– Could I have damaged with the few small manual spins before removing transport locks?
– Is this stiff behaviour normal?
– Should I not worry about it if programme spins seem to behave fine and quietly?
– How likely do you think an engineer would charge me for this?
– Is there a chance that if this is a fault but I don’t get an engineer, it will develop into something worse?
– If it sounds like a fault, any idea what exactly the problem is?Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this or answer questions

spinning machine by hand with brackets on wont have caused a problem
see how the machine goes ( after all you have 2 years) if there is a problem it will go down quiet quickly
as long as it runs quietly and no excessive noise on spin it should be ok
if your still worried you could always pop into curries or similar and spin one of their drums

Hi
Nicely timed 😉 I have just had delivered a new WAN28201GB/23 for display so it’s from the same shipment as yours. I have spun the drum with the transit bolts still fitted and the spin rotation is nice and smooth with no bumps or sticking.
I would as already suggested run the machine and if it gets no better or gets worse over the next three or four months then phone for an engineer to check it out.
HTH 🙂

Not sure our local Bengal Brasserie would be too pleased about that. 😆
