I have a Bosch Logixx 8 washing machine (WAS32469GB/24) which has stopped working. It came up with error code F42 – motor fault and I cleared the fault code and reset the machine. The machine worked for a short time thereafter before the code came back and clearing it made no difference. I changed the brushes in the motor but that made no difference. I called out an engineer who checked the motor and said it was alright. He said it must be the PCB board. He had a second hand one which he fitted but the same problem remained. When machine is switched on the drum immediately starts a spin which lasts 1-2 seconds, pauses a minute or so and does same thing again. Repeats this several times and then comes up with error code F42 – motor fault. If motor and PCB board are okay any suggestions as to where the problem lies or is it indeed a motor fault that the engineer failed to identify? Advice would be appreciated before I throw the towel in and buy a new machine.

This does sound like a motor fault on the tacho part of the motor might be worth a 2nd opinion

Might be worth checking the motor plug wires for a loose or broken connection.
test continuity between motor plug end and PCB end.

the problem in this trade as always is you don’t need any qualifications to start

as Kaibart said it sounds like a tacho fault. the tacho is a small electrical generator that feeds a signal to the electronics to tell it what speed the motor is doing. bit like a cruise control on a car.
there is a magnet spinning inside a coil. If the magnet snaps you would get exactly the fault you are describing. to check it you have to use a multimeter on a low AC volts scale and with the meter on the correct motor contact spin the motor and look for an output. If your engineer did not do this then he has not checked properly

if you want an engineer who knows go here and see if you have anyone close

Re: Bosch washing machine not doing program

Thanks for the replies. In my case a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Further to the useful advice I’ve made progress and have identified the problem is with the power control board. I managed to hook the motor up to another machine and it went through a program as it should. I opened up the power control board and found burnt out components. I’m now faced with weighing up the cost of replacing the power board against cost of a new machine!
    I appreciate the responses. Thanks
