ParticipantHello,
Thanks so much for a really useful site. Spare parts and advice from you have kept a number of appliances in good working order well after I might have had to give up on them.
My Bosch washing machine is starting to give signs of impending breakdown and at 10+ years old I don’t think it owes us anything, so I’m going to replace it. Research on here and elsewhere has led me to the Bosch WAQ24461, but one comment on here suggests it has the dreaded sealed tub that is clearly worth avoiding. Do you folks know if it does, or is there any way for me to find out ?
Thanks in advance.

It DOES NOT have a sealed drum. It ‘s a nice machine overall.

Hi
By the looks of the diagram It does look like it has the sealed drum. It still is a good machine though 😉
HTH 🙂

Whoops, my mistake (I looked up WAE24461) Doh…!
Yes I can now confirm the WAQ24461GB does have a sealed drum.

Thanks very much for those prompt replies. I could spend a bit more to get a more serviceable and longer-lasting machine, but sadly can’t stretch to ISE money at the moment – maybe up to £ 500 or so ? Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Stick with Bosch is my advice. Up to £500 there’s nothing to beat a Bosch or be more easily serviceable/reliable.

Hi
I have the current definitive answer 😀 The WAQ is the only range to have the sealed drums. WAE,WAS and WAY all have split tubs.
I have a Bosch and would have another as well, a fair few of the family members also have Bosch machines some of which do have the sealed drums with no problem at all.

Thanks for checking the facts for me – much appreciated. Last question, I promise: having read that a stray bra wire could write off a sealed drum, and having had to retrieve a wire once – luckily the end was still poking through to the inside of the drum – I’m a bit nervous. Would I be better off buying the WAE24461 as it doesn’t have a sealed drum ? I’ve looked on the Bosch website and the specs seem much the same apart from load capacity (which doesn’t bother me). Is the E range inferior in other respects ?
Thanks again.

If it helps you to make up your mind, I have had 5 or 6 sealed drum Bosch machines with failed bearings. 🙁

Just a quick note to anyone thinking of buying a WAQ24461, I’ve had one for 3.5 years and the bearings have failed already. It sounds like a bomber taking off when it spins up. And I thought Bosch was supposed to be reliable. AVOID!
