Hi, I’d be grateful for any advice on my beloved washing machine. I think we’ve had it for around 10 years and I certainly don’t recall it ever needing a repair.

It washed the first wash normally that day, and I loaded a second one. This washed normally and the timer display showed “0” but when I attempted to open the door, it didn’t open but started refilling with water. The timer display also showed 18 minutes and the indicator lights showed it was on a rinse cycle. The drum rotated normally, changing direction as it usually did. After rinsing, it pumped the water out, but didn’t spin. The timer display counted down minute by minute until it reached 1 minute and wouldn’t progress any further, so I couldn’t open the door. Eventually, after several attempts to reset it using the “X” feature, switching it off and on, I managed to get a “0” on the timer display and I could open the door. I experimented by trying different programmes. The wash programmes resulted in the 18 minutes display, etc. On a spin only cycle it showed 12 minutes, pumped for few minutes, then stopped while the time display counted down to 1 minute and stayed there. Again, got it to 0 using “X”, but the door won’t open. I probably will get it to open again but there is no fixed pattern on how I get to that stage.

I’ve spoken to a few engineers. The local one I used previously for other appliances said it was beyond their area of expertise as they didn’t have the equipment to test it, I would need to get a Bosch engineer. Another one said he had never come across that problem before, but it could be the circuit board, in whch case it would be an expensve repair, a replacement was £230. He said after 10 years it would be more cost-effective to get a new one.

    Any ideas?

    Hi
    Thats a weird one.
If it were my call I would be looking at either earth leakage or a faulty module/PCB.

Providing the machine is sound, it may be worth investing money into it as you have one of the more up market German machines and IMHO are far superior to the current offerings in their range.

Please feel free to find a Bosch engineer from the link below 🙂

Wow, that was quick! Thanks for the prompt reply.

I’d agree on the quality aspect. The ones I’ve looked at recently have a much lower build quality.
