ParticipantMy Bosch washing machine has been excellent for the past 5 or 6 years. However, a couple of days ago it starting being noisy when the drum was turning but not all the time. The noise is kind of grinding or screeching and is quite loud – not just normal washing noise. The machine was well fitted, balanced and is cleaned regularly.
I cannot afford to replace this machine or to face an expensive call out charge so will try DIY repairs. I have read some info on websites which suggest there may be something stuck in the pump. If so, what are my chances of being able to clear the pump and where do I start? If it’s not this, can you suggest anything?
Many thanks

Participantthe pumps easy
on the front of the machine, at the bottom, theres a flap
open the flap, and unscrew the filter, anti-clockwise then look inside for foreign objects
it may be worth putting a towel down to absorb any waterother than that, it could be a bra wire or something between the drums.. try feeling round the inside of the drum to see if you can feel anything poking out of one of the holes
if either of these arent any help or dont cure your problem, then we’ll be looking at something else ( obviously)
hope this helps

Hi, thanks for your reply & suggestions.
We’ve checked the filter and found nothing. About a month ago the machine leaked stinky water a bit from underneath near the filter so we cleared the filter then which was a bit mucky & it all worked fine again after that.
I’ve also just checked in the drum for anything poking through and couldn’t find anything there either. I’m quite a careful washer – pockets always checked & bras are washed in laundry bags!
Where do I try next?
Many thanks

Participantis there any movement in the drum at all?
that is , if you open the door and try and lift the inner drum, is there any movement?
does it rumble or feel rough as you turn the drum?
it is possible for something to be stuck between the 2 drums, as careful as people are, it can sometimes happen

Hi,
When I tried to lift the inner drum it won’t move up & down at all. It will move a bit front to back but I think it’s always done that. There’s no rumbling when I spin the drum, just a very slight whirring noise that seems normal, it doesn’t seem rough or catching when I spin it.
I ran the machine again to have another listen to it. The noise happened a couple of times, the second time was near the end of the cycle when the water was draining out ready to spin but the drum was not moving. Does this suggest the pump? It was almost a noise like when you spin a plate or a coin – does this make sense?
Thanks again for all your help.

Participantit does sound like an object in the pump
or, of course the pump itself
just before you go to the lengths of a new pump, take out the filter again, and physically put two fingers into the hole, and feel around the impeller of the pump, sometimes , removing the filter is not always enough
the pump will be available from the online shop, but to be honest you might well find the culprit by doing what i advised
good luck! can you let us know how you get on please?
and id ask you to remove the plug ( have to, its a safety issue)
