ParticipantHi everyone. Thanks in advance of reading my question.
Last year I bought a Bosch WAW28660GB washing machine off a neighbour who was emigrating. It’s a fairly high-end machine and is in pristine condition – I’m not sure how old it is, but the neighbour did not use it much.
Although I have used it several times since acquiring it, I did only buy it as a spare for when my previous Bosch washing machine eventually broke beyond further repair. That day has now come. This washing machine seems to work perfectly in every way, except that I have noticed twice (and not consecutively) there was water on the floor at the end of the cycle. Today I saw for myself what happens – on a 60’C cotton wash (which is all I ever use), when the wash cycle ends and the machine spins out the suds before starting the rinsing, the water is being forced back up the machine and out through the soap drawer. Today it was especially violent in doing so, and the water very sudsy.
I switched the machine off and drained it from the black hose in the filter compartment. I then took out the filter to check for blockages (there were none), and switched the machine back on to verify that the pump cuts in, which it did, as I could see the impeller spinning round. I replaced the filter and checked the waste hose as the machine went into spin, and water was pouring out fast & free like I would have expected.
This machine has an i-dose system which I never use, because I use powder and rarely use softener. I never ever use a lot of powder, although recently I was reading I should be using much more in a hard water area such as mine, so as to safeguard the machine from limescale (my last washing machine must have had 8 new heating elements in as many years, it was never an issue to replace them). I can’t think how using more would be a good thing if my laundry is already foaming up when under-dosing, but there we are.
Any advise on what could be wrong? I was washing a full load on all occasions, regardless of the occasions when the machine left water on the floor or not. I’m suspecting that being a 9KG load in a machine with a 2ft by 2ft footprint doesn’t leave much room inside of it, therefore the water has nowhere else to go, but all the same, I can’t see how this could be right.
Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Moderatorturn the machine on with no washing in
use a rinse programme
it should fill with water, drum turn for a bit then drain
what you need to do is watch it drain and make sure all the water is getting out

ParticipantHello Dave
Many thanks for your reply. I tried this, and it empties just as you’d expect. Once I had drained the sudsy water earlier on, all was well too. Looking down into the hole in the soap unit with the drawer out, there doesn’t seem to be a lot between the out drum and the drawer. What I’m trying to say is the drum seems very high up. When full of laundry, I’m thinking when the machine spins, there’s not much space for the water to go to. But of course, I’m also thinking the machine was designed to be used as it is being.

Moderatorif there is too much suds in the machine the pump air locks and does not pump out. if the machine then goes into spin there is only a finite space between the inner and out drum so it overflows
try adding fabric conditioner as it acts like a foam suppressant
