ParticipantMachine fills but won’t spin, just the clicking noise.
Have replaced the brushes but no change.
Penguin45 suggested new brush holders (the topic used then has disappeared).
Can’t see any on the net. How much are they, are they easy to fit & how likely is it that this will solve the problem (any other possibilities)?
Cheers.February 16, 2008 at 5:58 pm #243414Penguin45

Don’t know where the topic went either 🙁 .
What were your test meter results? If you haven’t done a continuity check, you’re just guessing and that’s an expensive way to repair an applianace.

No meter & wouldn’t know what to do with one if I had one.
Let me know if there are still a number of possible problems (which could be expensive). The washer is 7 years old so may have to cut my losses.February 16, 2008 at 6:25 pm #243416Penguin45

Other options…….
Timer unit is the only other component directly connected, so it’s motor problems or the timer. It would be a shame to give up on a decent machine for what might be a simple problem.
If you do not have a meter, your best bet may be to remove the motor and ask a local repairer to check it for you. If you take it round to them, there will porobably be just a nominal charge.

Thanks. Have got an electrician coming for some other work so he may be able to help here. Otherwise will take to a repairer. Can the test be done with the motor in place & how is the timer unit checked?

Motor is held on with two bolts – I’d take it off for convenience. Your question suggests that you have tried to fit the brushes with the motor in place……? It is almost impossible to fit them correctly on the machine.
Anyway, the block of connectors on the back edge of the timer goes directly to the motor, so repeating the continuity test from there should give similar readings to doing just the motor itself. Three circuits – one pair of terminals is the tacho unit, one pair goes across the brushes and armature, the final two (possibly three – not sure if you’ve got the extra coil tap) are for the field coil. If you get circuits through the lot, it’s the programme unit.

Meter testing done & discovered motor problems which have now been cured.
Thanks.February 24, 2008 at 7:13 pm #243420kelland

the brushes stick in the holders, see if they slide in and out ok, if not run a file down the small side of them
