brilliant day
ParticipantI think the brushes on my bosch wff 2001 need replacing. Is it an easy job and can it be done with the motor in situ?
Thanks

Brushes are p/no 154740, about £23 plus VAT & P+P IIRC.
Motor must be removed – two bolts, quite straight forward.
email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with p/no for confirmed prices and ordering.

Thanks both. This is the first time I have used UK Whitegoods forum and I am gobsmacked by the response time. Are you guys surgically connected to your PCs?
Best and most impressed regards

Good timing more than anything, sometimes posts go unanswered for half an hour 😆

I have just replaced brushes on a WFF2001 after 5 years life. You can do it without removing the motor if you lay the machine on its side and remove the base plate of the machine. This is pop rivetted in place and the rivets can be drilled out or cropped (replacing with sensible fasteners you can remove easily for future access). This access route is a lot quicker, I feel, than removing the motor.
Replacing the brushes is fiddly because of the need to compress the spring down into the bush guide. Patience and a good light are a great help. Check that the brushes slide freely down the guides. One of mine was clogged with carbon dust and needed a scrape with a small screwdriver handle. Once you have seated the new brushes it’s a good idea to check the loop resistance across the motor armature with a multimeter connected across the brush terminals. The armature resistance seems to be about 6 ohms. This check will help to avoid putting the whole machine back together and then finding that one of the brushes has not seated firmly on the commutator.
My first attempt at this job was by working through a mirror view of the job around the sides of the motor – totally impossible and a serious threat to mental health!

😕 😕
Definately easier to remove the motor. Twenty minute job at most to remove back panel and motor.
Power off first of course

This is a bit like the Gynaecologist who papered his hall-way through the letter-box.
Sometimes the short cut is longer that the suggested route. 10 out of 10 for effort though.

A triumph of innovation that’s for sure and full credit to the guy.
I love Alex’s reference to the Gynaecologist by the way and if any in said profession are reading this, please give us more tips on working in confined spaces :rotl:

I’m no gynaecologist, but I used to be a potholer. I made an entry from below because I couldn’t release the RH bolt holding the motor. The bolt head was behind the housing. When I removed it, it left a tapped dowel holding the motor by a threaded stud. I could see no way of removing the dowel/ stud. It seemed to be an interference fit in its hole.
What did I miss?

Once that locking bolt and the belt tensioning bolt are removed the motor simply pulls off the drum spigot (your dowel/stud with it) 😉

Many thanks! I wish I had discovered this valuable site before my struggle. At least I now have a removable base plate!
