ParticipantHi,
I have a Bosch WFF 2001 washing machine that is malfunctioning. I have no experience with faulty washers and I have only a general knowledge of how they work.
Basically, the water isn’t all being pumped out – a lot of it is, although rather noisily sometimes, but then the pump just stops when the water level just reaches the drum bottom.
The warning lights then flash for ‘blocked outlet pipe or pump fault’.
If I move the program dial to ‘X’ & then to ‘drain’, the remainder of the water will go after 2 attempts.
I have checked the pump filter & there’s no obstructions and the blades of the impeller move around okay. It’s as if the pump is only half as strong as it needs to be. What foxes me is that it will drain eventually – suggesting any outlet pipe blockage isn’t total.
Would it be safe for me to drain the machine, take the outlet pipe off the waste water pipe & check for blockages? What’s the best way of checking the outlet pipe?
If that reveals no blockage, is there a way I can tell if the pump isn’t working properly? Can I run the ‘drain’ function with the pump filter cover off, so I can watcch the impeller go round?
I’d be grateful for any help, advice or tips!
Many Thanks,
Juliusgb

You do indeed appear to have a fault due to water draining slowly. You are doing the right things and it would certainly be worth checking the sink spiggot for partial blockage. Other than that it`s probably a partial blockage (like a sock) in the hose that leads from the drum to the filter.
Perhaps check filter again paying particular attention to this area.
Power off of course :zap:Bryan

As with most WFF2001’s, after a while the pump impellor bearings wear and start to play up. Best way to tell is if there is any lateral play at all on the impellor = new pump time 🙁
Also check the internal drain outlet coupling (reservoir) as that gets crudded up easily 😉
:plug: UNPLUG THE POWER BEFORE INSPECTION :zap:

Thanks to you both – if my girlfriend lets me anywhere near the machine, I’ll take a look (am in the doghouse over a separate issue…).
How do I access the reservoir, from the back of the machine?
Would bleach (diluted of course) be any help in unclogging the gunk in the reservoir? Thanks again.

Find where the drain hose is coupled to the rear panel of the machine. With the lid and rear panel removed, the reservoir can be wiggled upwards (you can see the four lugs on the back panel) until it releases. Repeated forward and back flushing, combined with violent shaking will produce a surprising amount of crud.
Power off, please.
