Bosch WFF1201 with sticking door

Recently had a few instances of the door staying locked at the end of cycle. Previously re-running the spin cycle sorted it, but today it locked out for much longer than previous (still locked after a couple of hours) even after re-running spin a couple of times. I did a quick search and was just about to check it had drained properly by pulling out the drain hose, when I checked the door for one last time and it opened! Washing seems to be as dry as normal. Anyone got suggestions for best things to check / likely causes of the problem?

Two things to consider with these machines.

1/ If the machine contains water at the end of the cycle, the door lock will not disengage, even if you switch off the power switch. Pulling the plug should allow the lock to dis-engage after about two minutes. Start by checking the filter for the pump for crud build-up. There is a breather box at the top of the machine which the drain pump runs through – these can crud-up, especially in hard water areas. Finally, the air-bell for the water level system can fill up with goo and give false readings. It’s located at the 6 o’clock position on the back of the drum.

2/ Door locks get old and just don’t want to either lock or unlock. Replacement unit is HERE if you decide that that is the problem.

Stay safe – power off if you remove any panel.

There is also a peculiar fault with these machines where a faulty heater element, if leaking to Earth , will cause the door to stay locked for hours after a wash has finished.

If it happens again , and the appliance is empty of water , try unplugging the machine and see if the door then opens , after the obligatory 2 minute wait.

Ok have checked the pump filter and the air-bell, all clear. I will therefore move on to the door lock, but can’t see the best way to access. Can you give me a very brief idea of which way to go – from the top, from the bottom, or does the whole front panel come off? Ta! Neil

Edit – sussed out how to get at the mechanism through the door opening. Tried the technique of a gentle thump around the handle and hey presto the door release, have then had the interlock out, checked and refitted. Initial test showed it to work, we will wait and see over the next few washes. Seems to be definitely the interlock though…
