ParticipantI seem to have a problem with our Bosch WFF2000 machine. This machine was bought in Germany when we were living there in 1995 so it has given very good service with only a new thermostat in that all of that time doing about 3-4 loads a week.
So when it was about 10-15 minutes into a cycle today (we always wash on 30 degrees short cycle) there was a bang and some smoke with a strong burning smell. The red light on the wall plate had gone out but it didn’t trip the mains. I drained the machine and made sure everything was off.
Just now I changed the 13A fuse in the wall plate (wired in, not plugged in) and power is now on. When I turned the programme selector to start it commenced a cycle, drew water ok and the drum started to turn. I advanced the selector to the end and it stopped ok.
I was thinking originally it might have been the motor but it was turning ok if only for a short time.
I’ve turned it off again now.
I’d be grateful for any opinions before I get someone to look at it- I’d be keen to get it repaired if possible rather than replace itMay 27, 2012 at 8:00 pm #375633Allsorts

Taking your information that:
there was a bang and some smoke with a strong burning smell
you should not have re-tried the appliance before having everything checked out.
Having said that… My suggestion would be to refrain from attempts to try the operation of the appliance and to click the following link to Find An Engineer

I concur with my colleagues previous post. The symptoms suggest the heater has failed and a local engineer should sort that for you OK.

Thanks for the replies guys. We had an engineer here today (found through this site). He had a good look at it but couldn’t find anything obviously wrong. We ran a complete cycle without any problems. He advised not to run it overnight and keep an eye on it. We’ll see how it goes….
