ParticipantHi first post so please be patient 🙂
My wff2000 some 8-9 years old, did a final wash ok but then failed to spin the clothes dry. A little out of warranty so – I’ve had a quick look, nothing appears to be fried, but on inspection there is a fair amount of black dust around the motor and belts, so I removed the motor and inspected the carbon brushes, which seem very worn down about 5-7mm remaining.
Is it likely that replacing the brushes would make it work again?
and if so where is the best place to get some new brushes. Thanks

5-7 mm of brush equates to no brush left at all!
Have a look in Shop@ for the brushes…if they’re not there give Dave_Conway a pm.
Before you fit the new brushes, give the commutator a clean with some fine emery and brush it out with a small brush (an old toothbrush is perfect)…this will extend the life of the new brushes.
I assume you have already done so but just to reiterate you must unplug the appliance before carrying out any work.April 5, 2005 at 10:48 am #130816fredflintstone

Ok I have got new brushes from Dave – very quickly thank you
pattern parts that are not quite identical to the originals – ‘the connector plates’ at the opposite end to the brushes are not quite as wide as the originals and don’t fit quite as snuggly, but it does seem to be working now, just doing a test wash. Thanks to all that helped

How do you get access to get the motor off in the first place.
I reckon I have dead brushes too, but going in from the back it seems as if I have a two stage bolt on the right of the motor which I can get the first bit out but the second part remains (and the motor pivots around it).
The part which comes out is a properly machined bolt (not sheared at all) so I’m at a bit of a loss.Do I need to have the front off as well to get it off?

Belay that order 🙂
How sad is this, replying to my own post!!
I found that I just was’t being brutal enough, and that the “second” bolt part just sits in the housing until you push it hard enough!!
Ho hum, off to look at my brushes now.
