I am contemplating replacing the drum bearings on my 16 year old Bosch WFF2001. Referring to the drawings on the Bosch website it looks as though these can be replaced from the rear of the machine, without removing the drum from the machine. If this is correct is it possible to also replace the bearing seal in this manner, or does that. Have to be done from the inside of the outer drum?
I must say that this machine has been superb having only the pump, motor brushes and shock absorbers replaced in 16 years. If I do have to replace it it will have to be a Miele as I need the door to be hinged on the right!!!

Easy job, drum support spigot does indeed come off the back, no problems to note. Go for it!

I’m just looking at the same job, I’m just wondering if you managed to replace the bearings and seal without taking the whole thing apart?

As Martin said it is a simple job. Remove the 3 legged drum support spigot then remove the old bearing. I put the new bearing in the freezer overnight and heated the support spigot slightly and the bearing went in easily.

How easy was it to get the old bearing out? Did you need a bearing puller?

Club hammer and cold chisel is the accepted method.

Definitely didn’t need a bearing puller but it must have been easy or I would remember how I did it.

Beware. If the machine is a little smelly or even if not the drum`s spider ( I`m not talking about the external red coloured cast iron one you see but the one internally) may be on the verge of failure due to the age of the machine; it is aluminium alloy which rots as all washing machine spiders can and do rot including Miele. If you check on the Bosch site, from memory, that part is obsolete. Just a point nothing more.
Yep, I just checked the spider and drum are obsolete. Probably still worth a go at replacing the bearings because it is so easy to do unlike their more recent creations which are a pain in the *rse because the machines are compomised and so ill thought out.
Your machine was one if not the last easy to work on series before everything, other than some washer dryers which most weren`t really Bosches in anycase, went plastic less than fantastic tanks.Re: Bosch WFF2001. Replace drum bearings.
As it happens I decided to take it apart this afternoon, and found that it was the internal aluminium spider that had completely rotted through! Thanks to everyone for all the help, but now we have to buy a new machine!
