    Hello all,
Been to an old BOSCH WFG2820GB/01 washing machine this morning which doesn’t want to go into full spin. Also the motor is very noisy. In fact I thought it was the drum bearings but no, motor sounds like a bag of nails but drum bearings are silent.
Problem started after a heavier load than usual.
Customer also mentioned that tub/drum assembly has been moving quite a bit since. So checked the suspension legs and they do feel quite loose.

Is it worth changing them, would that help with the spin or has the motor had it so not worth the bother?

yep thats old. very well built though

run some light oil into motor bearings it will make it a lot quieter.

have you checked motor brushes ?

    Thanks Dave,
Yes motor brushes are still very good. Machine is 20 year old but has been very lightly used.
Motor is no longer available. If bearings lubrication and new suspension legs don’t fix the problem, then how easy is it to change the bearings?

drum bearings on that model should be easy as long as the spider is ok

assume you have checked spider as problem will only show up on load

I don’t think there is a problem with the drum bearings, was wondering if you could change the motor bearings easily?

if the motor comes to bits then you may be able to change the rear one but to change the front one the pulley would have to be removed and thats not possible

Ah ok, thanks. Let’s hope just oiling them will do the trick then!

    Update
Customer was away for 3 months. I finally got to fit new suspension and oiled the motor bearings today. Made it quieter but still no full spin. It looks like the drum rotation isn’t smooth, the motor gives slight jolts which make the drum sometimes move wildly.
At this point, gave it up as a bad job as you can’t get a new or second hand motor for this machine.

    Assume you checked pressure chamber?

Must admit I didn’t. Something to check next time I come across this problem. Wouldn’t explain the jolts though?

Worth a look at the motor plug as I have seen wires breaking away at the plug connection. This causes a similar problem to what you describe, the jolts.

Great, it goes on the list of things to check next time.
On this one, I didn’t look at the motor connector too closely but it looked and felt ok when unplugging/plugging.
