ParticipantSome advice please, if you would be so kind….
We have a problem with our Bosch washer which is about 5 years old. It’s had a fair amount of use over the years, but no problems up until now.
For the last week there has been quite a loud noise when the machine got up to the top speed of spin. We were intending to have a look at it at the weekend but it went caput before we could investigate 🙁 !
We were doing a wash, and during this the house electrics tripped twice. After the second trip the drum would not rotate at all. The machine was draining so it’s not completely dead. We’ve had a look at the drive belt and it looks fine. We suspect that it is something to do with the motor – worn motor bearings perhaps?
Any advice on what the problem may be, and what parts are likely to be the problem would be appreciated.
Many thanks 🙂

Thanks Martin 😀 .
Yes, I gather from reading previous posts of drums not turning that the most likely problem is the brushes. I can’t see any mention of noise though – which makes me wonder whether our problem is more involved ❓ .

One of the symptoms of brush failure is a crackling, roaring noise as they struggle to make a good contact on the armature. If done too often the armature can cook and go down to earth. This is often accompanied by a loud clicking noise as the segments of the commutator start to lift.
Does that sound familiar?

Regards,
Penguin45.I suppose you could describe the noise on high spin as a roar yes. This only happened for a few washes before the drum stopped turning.
We took the motor off last night and had a look. The brushes are indeed very worn down, so I will order some replacements today and see if that solves the problem.
Thanks for your help 😀

😀 Well the new brushes that I ordered from this site arrived yesterday and we fitted them. We now have a fully operating machine 😀 . It was a bit confused initially and filled with too much water, but it sorted itself out and we’ve done two successful washes. The noise has gone too.
Thanks ever so much for your advice, it was very much appreciated. A fantastic site this – keep up the good work.

You may have another problem there….the pressure system may need a clean particularly if you live in a hard water area. 😉

Thanks Clive – we’ll keep an eye on it.
It’s the first time that it’s happened. I drained the water and selected another program – which then worked fine. Then did another load on the program that was overfilling, that was fine too. So we’ll see how it goes.
Cheers
