ParticipantAfter approx 1.5 hours the programme stops and the active light begins to flash. Could it be brushes on the motor – I say that because the drum tries to rotate but seems to give up without rotating. It used to make a grinding sound – a new pump fixed that. I’ve also checked all pipes for blockages. I’m out of ideas, patience and clean clothes.

hi
do you have the full model number ie wfl2450gb/01 or /04 and the FD number
the active light flashing indicates that it has taken too long to fill (i am looking at the test sequence as i write this) ie longer than 6 mins
check that there is enough water pressure going into the machine and that the machine isnt syphoning. although this machine should have a device to stop it syphoning.
as for the motor not turning can you hear the control module clicking when the drum should be turning? if you can it is probably the brushes that are worn out

Apologies its the End light that flashes. Checked the manual, says pump or pipes are blocked. I’ve replaced pump and checked pipes. I figure the pump works OK as it drains any water in the drum when programme is started. Only other odd symptom is the drum attempts to rotate but gives up half way through – do the brushes on the motor need replacing?

Sounds like it (there are 2 types of motor fitted to your machine, so cannot advise which brushes you will need without ‘make’ of motor?)

hi
the end light flashing indicates not drained within 6 mins
this is usually the pump or the waste hose blocked but as you have changed the pump and checked the pipe we must now look at what tells it that it hasnt emptied
the water level is controlled buy a pressure switch but these are usually quite reliable so look for a blockage in the tube running to it
this is usually located buy removing the lid and is usually brown or black in colour with a black tube comming out of the bottom
remove the black tube and blow down the end to see if it is blocked
if not try the pressure bottle at the other end of the hose connected to the sump hose at the base of the tub as this is possibly blocked with gunge
as for the drum not turning the brushes are probably worn out as you suggest (they normally last 5-7 years with average use)
:zap: POWER OFF BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING :zap:

OK, tried a rinse cycle, got the same error – end light flashing. Then tried drain cycle, got the same error message.
I can’t see brown/black box near top of machine. I’ce cleaned the pressure bottle before. I’m about ready to give in and buy a new machine. Any last ideas anyone??

As you have sugested earlier about the brushes being worn. Why not remove the motor and take out the brushes, apart from the obvious length of them the way to know if this is your cause of no motor action is to look at the point where the brushes come into contact with the armature. If one brush is shiny and the other dull, then the brushes do need replacing.
Hope this helps and as mentioned earlier

Don’t mind giving this a go. Any idea how I go about removing the motor and checking the brushes??

I really must ask you not to follow the advice given so far in this thread. “Taking off pipes and blowing down them” bears no relevance to the problem with your model of machine and is certainly an incorrect and unsafe approach and should be desregarded. Likewise removing the motor is not to be taken lightly and may prove fruitless as well.
If the drum rotates at all, there is no need to suspect the motor. The fault does indeed indicate a drainage problem and I venture to suggest you get an expert in to check it out for you. It will involve accessing the internal drain hose, checking the pump, the air chamber AND the motor all in one comprehensive service call check-up.

Reading through the threads, it was said the drum did not rotate, it also said it drained therfore the pump and drainage appear ok, the fault from what I read is with motor action.
Having said that I agree with Martin on his final point. If you need advice on how to take the motor out, you really should get in a qualified engineer.
It may save you money in the long run. -
