An issue with my mother’s old WFL2062GB.
She initially reported that the machine was screeching and that the drum seemed tight when turned by hand.
She had a repairman out who diagnosed a perished drum collar and replaced it, but this has made no difference.
I have now taken a look and found that the inner drum is not sitting square in the outer one – when turning the drum the gap at the front between the inner and outer drums changes by about 5mm at the bottom as it turns. There is no play in the bearings though.
This misalignment is causing the inner drum to rub on the collar – hence the screeching noise and tightness.
The only cause I can think for this is that the drum spider is bent or broken, but would like some more opinions please.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
As this is probably uneconomic to repair given its age are there any suggestions for a not too expensive (£300- £400) replacement?
She just needs something basic and functional that will hopefully keep running for a few years.
