ParticipantHi,
My Bosch washing machine has now failed twice in the last fortnight. Both times I have drained it, laid it on its side and checked the motor and the drain tubes from the drum for blockages. Each time after this I have tried it and it has been fine, however today it only ran once before failing again.I checked the motor using a multimeter and the brushes appear to be making contact fine although I didn’t take them out. I also ran in spin mode with the drain pump cover off and saw the pump turning correctly.
Most of the posts on the forum point to brush replacement, is this something I can check? The machine is 7 years old and supports a family of four. If it’s likely to be something more serious then I guess I’ll be looking for a replacement.
Any advice appreciated
Cheers

ParticipantWell looks like it was the brushes, picked up a pair and popped them in and it’s now come back to life. They were pretty short so I’m hoping that’s it.
Thanks for the advice guys, and your excellent video Penguin. Saved me the £600 the misses was keen to blow on a new Miele.
Cheers

ParticipantApologies for resurrecting an old thread but I’ve just pulled some metal out of the drain pump (that was causing problems with the machine) and the motor wasn’t coming back to life. A quick look underneath and it seems my brushes are on the way out once more.
Shouldn’t they last more than a year? I bought a pair off a chap who advertises on eBay, rather than official Bosch ones (if they exist?) Do these things vary in quality and if so, could someone point me at a set that will give a bit more service. The original ones lasted 7.5 years so were considerably better.
Thanks

ParticipantBut are they worth £34 instead of £4? Are they a different compound or is it likely to be motor wear that is resulting in the current ones wearing so quickly?
Thanks

ParticipantYes but they’re presumably the same as all of the alternative/equivalent parts which you can find for as little as £4?
I’d just like some confidence that whatever I take the trouble to fit will last more than a year. If the official Bosch part will last 7 times longer then I don’t mind paying 7 or 8 times more for it as I’ll be saving time. I’m just wondering if that will actually be the case or whether my now older motor is just wearing the brushes more quickly due to age?
Thanks

Participantask yourself the question… are £4 brushes liable to be any good?
just buy the proper ones…

you will get what you pay for up to a point.
I have found the best compromise to buy the laminated after market brushes…you can also source these on places such as Ebay
These are certainly quieter slightly longer and easier to fit in my experiences compared to the real budget end solid carbon type -
