ParticipantMorning all!
I have a 21 year old Bosch WFL2260UK/04 – about 10 years ago I changed the brushes, and so last week when it stopped spinning I did the same thing.
Spinning was back in action but now we are experiencing a weird thing where, especially at the start, when we press the start button (display goes to ‘Active’) it switches back to ‘Ready’. If we keep pressing the Start button it sort of carries on, but it seems to skip through the program so we dont get a useful wash out of it.Sometimes it stays on for a short while, drainage kicks in or it spins a bit back and forth. It has filled with water but that seemed hit and miss to be honest and that’s what I was thinking of checking next. We did a 90 wash with no clothes in and once we got past the first 10 mins of stop start, it did carry on to the end and managed to heat the water up fine.
I opened it up again and went hunting for any blockages – found a penny around the sump drainage, then cleaned everything out from there up and out of the drain hose (disconnected all of that and washed it out).
Still the same -start it it flicks back to ‘Ready’ for a while.
Spinning cycle is fine.
Drain cycle is fine.Any ideas what this might be?
It sounds similar to this:
If so…. should I get a new board or should I just bite the bullet and get a new machine? (I’m reluctant to just because this has been such a workhorse, it is the same age as my two boys and has done at least a couple of washes a week every week for 21 years!).
Zanussi dryer we bought at the same time has also lasted 21 years so far, not used as much as the washer, but still I feel we’ve been lucky!

ParticipantJust tried that – and yes that worked fine all the way.
So I tried a 40 degree wash again – went for about 1 min, back to ‘ready’

ParticipantTried that and a 40 degree wash – and it seems totally happy.
I’ll try it again when it finishes.

ParticipantSo second attempt I tried a 90 wash (shouldn’t have made any difference, but a longer wash?) that went back to ‘Ready’ 4 times during the wash.
This morning tried another 40 wash, and it went back to ‘Ready’ twice. The second time when it went to ‘Ready’ I pressed the Start button and it immediately went back to ‘Ready’. Did it again and it carried on to the end.
I didnt disconnect the thermostat for these washes, just the heating element.

Moderatorwell I was hoping it was a heater fault but am tending toward a board fault now

ParticipantAh well it was worth a go! Time to bite the bullet I guess 😀
Many thanks for your help Dave, really appreciated.
Rob.
