Bosch WFO2260 Overheating

On Saturday our machine decided to boil our washing on the 30 degree woollens programme. There was a smell that I thought I recognized but couldn’t quite put my finger on until I noticed steam issuing from the soap drawer, there was also a small puddle (6″x3″) on the floor beneath the drawer.

As far as I can work out the programme had finished and machine had continued to heat the water to the extent that you could hardly touch the door glass. I wasn’t watching it so it is also possible that it had heated it during the wash.

I drained the machine and when I opened the door steam just poured out. It must have got pretty hot because the smell was not unlike that of a steam engine!

Anyway, needless to say the machine seems to work fine now. We now distrust it of course and will probably get someone out to look it over. Anyone come across this before or have any other suggestions?

Dodgy contact to NTC temperaure sensor would be my thought. Run it empty when you’re about and see what is actually happening.

Thanks for the responses. Have now run it three times with no problem.

What does NTC stand for – something temp control? Sounds like something that might be quite apparent if I opened the machine up and had a look (unplugged first of course!)

Where should I look inside?

Indeed so!

NTC = Negative Temperature Coefficient, basically it refers to a an electronic device that has taken the place these days of the traditional thermostat. The device is called a ‘Thermistor’ and is either an NTC or a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) the former detects heat, the latter cold.

OK, today’s update from the front line is that the machine functions but now no heat – water stone cold. 😕

Does this suggest that the NTC sensor is completely adrift or that the heating element maybe cooked also?

Sounds like an engineer call out!

Heater Element cooked I would think? Prior to it’s final failure I expect it had an earth leak which allowed the element to heat up without wayet in the drum (maybe?)….Click on link below for a local engineer to check it out for you. 😉

Well, engineer visited today and tells us it is the programmer that is at fault. Says we’re very unlucky and he’s only ever seen two go before.

Apparently part is about £160 plus fitting.

Looks like a new machine………. 🙁
