Our Bosch WFO2464GB (which is now about 15 years old) has developed an intermittent fault where sometimes it wont step through the programme, although on some occasions it behaves perfectly.

It will start to wash and often gets to the rinse step but wont then move onto the spin step and just keeps rinsing. My wife thinks its worse when on a half-load although as the problem is intermittent I cant be sure of that

I’m guessing its some sort of controller / timer problem but is anyone able to offer some advice as to what to check for and what part(s) I might need to replace (and where to get them from)

Usually washing or rinsing. It doesn’t stop working but keeps on doing the same thing and doesn’t move onto the next step.

Sometimes it spends a lot longer than normal on a step and then moves on

Very reliable electronics on your machine.
I would be looking at a pump blockage or pump failure.
It’s extending the drain time to allow the water drain to the correct level before progressing…

Ok thanks, I’ll have a look at those. Presumably it would keep turning the drum whilst trying to empty it ?

Also, is there a simple way to test the pump, in case I don’t find a blockage ?

The latest info from my wife is that she thinks that if its on a rinse programme then it doesn’t get stuck, nor does it if it has a heavy load (eg towels) in it.

It seems to be that its not always moving off the ‘wash’ step but if she moves the dial manually to ‘rinse’ it then carries on as normal

The problem seems to be worse with a light load in it, regardless of whether a full or quick program is selected.

Could this still be symptoms of a failing/blocked pump or is there something else I need to look at ?

If the heating element has a slight leak to earth then this can create random errors such as this. Check the heater’s earth potential.

The front of the door is cold to the touch when washing, so it looks as though the heater element has failed. I’ll fit a new one and see if that helps the programming issue as well.

Re: Bosch WFO2464GB wont always step through the programme

    Time for a quick update.

I ordered a new heater element (from here, of course 🙂 ) and fitted it yesterday. It appears to have resolved the problem as the machine has been through several cycles since then without any problems.

My only advice to anyone else with the same problem is that if I was doing again I’d be tempted to buy a new thermostat at the same time, just to make sure everything is working properly – it took me about an hour to replace the heater and for the sake of another tenner I wish I’d done both at the same time (although it turned out that mine was ok)

Thanks to everyone for their help with this
