ParticipantI attended to this client’s bosch washer with a very lumpy spin.
She said that the clothes were very damp and not spun out properly. Also said that the spin was very lumpy.
I checked for any play on the drum and ruled out bearings failure. I tested it out on empty wash, the spin seems fine and noticed the machine was not firm on the floor, I adjusted the feet to firm it up to secure the machine. Then I put some clothes in to get some weight to see how it performs.
Started it off with a 5 mins wash then selected for spin, it drains well then started rotating to get even distribution then increased speed. It was very lumpy. The spring tension seems strong, no knocking or rattle noise from concrete block. The spin program started off with 11 mins running to 9 mins and at this point it got very lumpy then it stopped and started again at 11 mins to re attempt the spin then aborted at 1 min then to 0.
Can anyone shed any light on what could it be the problem? I am not overly familiar with Bosch washer but have worked on plenty to have some knowledge on certain common faults.

It may be best to release fluff filter first. then put in wet clothers, if this cures the fault it may be because it isnt draining fully before going into spin..hope this helps.

I can assure you that it is draining very well. Fast draining (less than 30 secs) with lovely gurgling sound which indicate a good pumping out pressure.
It drains then spin, it spins ok when empty but with the load, it spins lumpy.

First thngs first….have you checked the brushes in the motor ? You’ll prob find them worn down and ripe for replacement.

I have not checked the motor, I didn’t think it was the motor causing the problem. I can go back to check it. The drum turns well both direction and did spin well on empty load.
I suppose that if the brushes are worn then there would be less power to spin under load. Will let you know how I got on – Thanks nomad Paul

Been on to the machine and did another test which performed rather well. I did noticed some crackling sound which spring to mind that I need to examine the motor. I found that the carbon brushes were worn also the bearings on the motor sounds very dry as it was making a grinding noise also it smelt burnt. Therefore a new motor is needed. Common problem so I have been told!
The drain pump was on its way out but not significant to the main problem and I replaced the drain pump for good measure.
On the other hand it’s rather awkward to get to the motor and drain pump without having to tilt the machine onto the side. I know that you can remove the front panel to get to the pump and motor but I would have thought Bosch could have made the rear opening wider rather than allowing room just for changing the belt. Thankfully that some of the newer models seems to have addressed these access issues!
Will give you the final result once I have completed the job. Just waiting for a new motor…

Best to remove front panel for pump replacement but tilt appliance FORWARD to access underneath for motor removal. This causes tub assy to push forward , creating more space between motor and rear panel and making access to motor bolts easier.

TBH, I can’t remember it as it was nearly two years ago. I think it did solve the problem as I seem to recall buying a new motor for the Bosch.
Yes it is all coming back to me now… The drain pump was on its way out (it was very noisy) and replaced it for good measure. The motor was running very dry, on close inspection when you spin the shaft, you can feel the grinding. The brushes was replaced but did not solve the grinding feel. So a motor was purchased and solved the problem or at least I thought it had as I have not heard any comeback about the machine.

Thanks for the report back.
It all helps in the greater understanding 🙂
Bosch’s seem to benefit from a change of motor when things are not quite right.Cheers

Very true but the cost of the motor can put people off and ended up buying a new Bosch washer
