This machine was brought to me by someone in Aberdeen (I don’t go out that far). They thought the drum bearings had failed but when I took the belt off I realised it was the motor, not the drum that was noisy. There was about 1/4″ of up and down play in the motor shaft! I removed the armature and it was then clear that the bearing had not broken up but the play was between the armature shaft and the bearing. Even if the bearing inner race had been turning on the shaft I’m puzzled as to how there could be so much play. The shaft surface looks very rough, a bit like a sand casting, rather than the polished effect you usually get when a bearing inner is turning on a shaft. Any suggestions for a cost effective repair as Bosch motors are megga bucks?
Cheers, Phil
