I have a Bosch washer/dryer model WFT2800GB/12. It washes fine. It even dries fine, except during the last 5 minute cool-down period when it wets the washing again.

During the normal drying cycle water is let into the condenser for 2 seconds in every 3, and the pump operates for 5 seconds in 25. During the cool down period water enters continuously and the pump continues as before. The water level seems to only just reach the bottom of the drum, but just enough for it to be picked up and carried onto the washing. Any tips as to the cause/cure would be much appreciated.

I’ve checked out the pressure sensor that detects the water level. The tube is clear and it seems to be functioning correctly – i.e. voltage on outputs changes in steps as water level increases. Another test was to stop the machine at the stage where the washing was getting wetter and then pump out to see if there was excessive water in the sump, but there wasn’t. So if the water isn’t getting deeper how is it getting onto the washing? I wondered if the water was rushing through the condenser so fast in the cool down that it was squirting onto the drum instead of running into the sump, so I reduced the flow by turning down the cold supply tap. That fixed it! Washing dry at last. This suggests a defective cold inlet valve. On dismantling the valve and inspecting the parts I found the rubber diaphragm to be a bit sticky, so perished and in need of replacement. Unfortunately no 10p diaphragms are available and so it’s a whole £75 cold inlet valve. Problem solved.
