ParticipantBosch WTA4108GB/01 vented drier. FD 8504000212. Serial no:- 51630014.
Set to timed dry; machine starts and heats. Less than 5 minutes later, the heater shuts off and the drier goes cold. I think the ‘stat fitted at the front of the machine on the filter housing duct is at fault. But there are 3 stats – one on the heater unit with the overload button, (this had tripped out when I arrived), one on the back of the air chamber, and the one I suspect at the front
The front stat cuts out quite early, but it is impossible to remove the stat wiring in time to circuit test it as the access is so limited. So by the time you have faffed about and removed the stat it has clicked back to N/C. Curses!!Any hints on this would be gratefully received; and also how to get the stats at reasonable prices. (if it is possible).
Thanks,
Steve.

I would have tried that but the ‘stat is a double with a common and 2 separate tags on the opposing side. So even if I connected one then the other, it would not necessarily give me the correct result. The resetable cut out had popped when I visited, and I pushed that back in and it seemed to start to heat. When the heat stopped, the cut out was still N/C, the other 2 tag stat above it on the heater plate was still N/C, so I assumed it had to be the remaining stat on the filter housing. But I’m not completely sure…. I have to say that it was the sight of a PCB in this Bosch drier and the thought of a flash! pop! if I got it wrong that sorta made me chicken out of a short out type of test with that stat. 😆
Is this a common fault? The stats are sooooo costly, that buying and trying are out of the question.
Any ideas, folks??
Thanks
Steve.

if the resettable stat has gone i would look at air flow problems first.
this can obviously only pop if the drier is heating ok but if has low airflow across heater will cause it to overheat and triphope this helps

The machine is clean and free of major dust. I can’t see any blockages. Even with the vent kit disconnected and the machine set to timed drying, the heater came on, ran for a few minutes, then goes cold and doesn’t come on for quite a time afterwards. 😕
I’ve ordered the filter check stat – that stays off for a long time when tested out of the machine. Gently tap it on the work surface and it resets. Hopefully the new one coming will sort the problem.Anything I’ve missed?
Thanks for the responses,
Steve.
