ParticipantHi,
We tend to use our Bosch WTE84308GB/17 condensing dryer on the ‘very dry’ cotton program in combination with the ‘low heat’ setting. We clean the filter and condensing unit regularly. The machine has now developed a fault, where after a while it cuts out. The display switches off, so it’s like the power has been switched off. If we wait a while, the display comes back on and it even remembers we had selected the ‘low heat’ option. Just press start again and eventually it will finish the program (might take a few trips). No error code is presented on the display at any time.
As part of the diagnostics, I took the top and side panel off to clean the pump and sump area under the condensing unit. I also cleaned the condensing unit and filter again. Lastly, I took the back off the machine to check the heater etc. The machine seems to run normally; there is airflow through the machine to cool the condensing unit and the water is pumped out.
I’ve read there are three thermostats on this unit, two on the heater and one somewhere at the front. One person suggested that the thermal protection on the heater only cuts the power to the heater, so it wouldn’t explain our symptoms. Should I think about changing the other thermostat, i.e. would it cut the power including the display?
Any feedback much appreciated as I’m not quite sure where to start.
Thanks and regards.

Silat15,
you and I have the same problem, but unfortunately it would appear there are no experts to advise us.

Check the plug top and wall socket. Symptoms would indicate a mains power failure and a dodgy wall socket arcing is commonplace.

I took the plunge and ordered a new NTC thermistor (only £12.29 ex delivery). It’s the one at the front of the machine, behind the cooling air outlet cover. This thermistor measures the temperature of the air exiting the drum, downstream of the filter and upstream of the condenser (you can see it when you remove the filter and condenser). We’ve dried two loads since without any issues, so it look likes the problem has been resolved 🙂 . It’s a bit tricky to remove the air outlet cover but other than that it is a simple job. I’ve attached two pictures for clarity.
