The interior light still comes on so there’s power there somewhere, but the display and the indicator light are dead. I keep the thing reasonably clean of fluff, and have tried cleaning out the door catch (as advised elsewhere). Apparently the display screen was doing some random flickering last week, but apart from that it’s been faultless for 9 years. One last thing – looking at the fault finding guide here, it might be a thermostat problem as I did open the door mid-cycle and it didn’t work after that. But we have been doing that for 9 years…

So question 1 – is there anything an untrained amateur like me could try to fix it? If no:

Question 2 – is it worth shelling out for someone to try to fix a 9 year old machine or is it just reaching the end of its life?

    Thanks

    Chris

Does the interior light still have the clear plastic cover in place or has it long gone ?
If its missing then the most likely problem is moisture/steam getting into the electronics via the exposed lamp assembly which may show up as a flickering / disappearing display .
I’m guessing you’ve checked the domestic socket and plug to rule out a simple loose connection ?

The cover is still there – a few cracks but no gaping holes. Socket is OK, the plug is a sealed unit but I guess it’s fine as the interior light comes on every time.
