ParticipantI got stuck on this job replacing door seal, I have done plenty in the past but this one is really difficult. I removed the heater unit to improve access and the old door seal came out with persuasion.
Fitting the new one is more tricky than I thought particularly the heater unit, I looked at the forum on similar bosch machines (majority of them are washers), they are implying remove the front panel to put the seal on. Some says it’s not neccessary. But in my case it’s case of having a third hand to help with the job.
Do I need a second person to hold the door seal in place while I prise it into place or will a strong clamp do the job (it resembled as putting a bicycle tyre on to the rim – very tight)?

You should really posts questions of this nature in TRADE TECHNICAL by the way.
I’m not sure why you removed the heater to fit the door boot? Access to the door boot drum clamp is tricky but once the front panel is removed its not too bad. No need to remove the counterweight either but should you wish then lie the machine on its back before removing the barrel clamp. But there’s enough space to access without going to such extremes, and the door boot slips on easy with a little washing-up liquid. 🙂

I removed the dryer heater to enable me to slot the seal in place and put the seal clamp on as well. Very limited space not to mention very tight.
Will try take front panel off and see if this helps.
Barrel clamp – what is it?

The large clamp that holds the front drum plate and concrete counterweight in place. Called a barrel clamp ‘cos they used to use similar ones on BARRELS 😉

I know that there two screws on bottom of front panel to remove the front.
Are there any other clips or screws I need to be aware of before I can remove the panel?
Do the top plastic control panel need to be moved or can it stay it the place?

TBH I’m amazed you haven’nt removed the front panel in the first place. 😯
All BSH machines are accessed this way anyway. Bloody sight easier than wrestling with the dryer heater unit as they are a sod to remove at the best of times!!

Not that I recall anyway.

Nope.

Me either! I am not sure why I did not remove it in the first place though I had considered it. Seems like a good idea to remove the heater at the time. First few days back at work after the long christmas break and recovering from the flu can get my brain all muddled up.
Lesson learnt!
Thanks for the tip mate. Will keep you posted…

The bottom right screw in the detergent dispenser compartment secures the front panel at the top, also.

Update on what I did to the machine…
I removed the front panel with ease by removing two screws on the bottom, a bit stiff to lift it off – a gentle nudge will shift it.
I removed the dryer heater unit as it improve access when putting door seal on. I knew there’s a reason why I took it off! Believe me it is much easier to remove it.
Put fairy liquid on the rubber seal and push it on then put the clamp on. Then put heater unit brackets back on the door seal and refitted the heater unit. The rest are straight forward.
The client caused a lot of damage to the machine by putting a fan heater in front of it to stop it from being frozen (the machine was in the outhouse), it melted the door frame, slightly damaged the door seal due to excessive heat, door interlock was faulty. I replaced the door frame trim and door interlock.
A real learning experience – simple to do it if you know how.
