KeymasterHi everyone, first post here and touch wood there won’t be too many more. I’ve got a Bosch Exxel WVT1260gb washer/drier and it sounds like the drum brearing has gone. Its got very noisy on spin and I can feel some play between the inner and outer drum assembly.
I’ve found suppliers for the bearing and spider online (pricey) but I’d like to know if this is a fairly straight forward DIY job? I’m an engineer by trade and I’ve taken a few older washing machines to bits on the past (mainly Hotpoints) but for the last 10 years or so I’ve been blessed with good reliability. I’ve never had to strip a Bosch down before. Any tips or any special tools needed?
Thanks in advance.

Renewing the spider is an expensive way to do the repair but quite easy to do. I would suggest you remove the spider and examine the drum shaft before you buy any parts. Sometimes the front bearing breaks up and damages the shaft surface where the seal runs. If this has happened the damaged shaft will tear up the new seal.
You will almost certainly need Torx bits but otherwise only standard tools are required.March 14, 2008 at 4:53 pm #245873gegsy

Hi
Just done washer dryer bearing change on same range, however the inner race of bearing had welded itself to the drum shaft 👿
Had to remove front (horrid strip down) and replace drum shaft to old drum.As Phidom rightly said, remove bearing cross piece and then inspect drum shaft carefully 😉
Power off first of course :plug:

Thanks for the advice guys. Is the shaft integral with the drum, i.e. if the shaft is damaged does that mean a new drum is needed?

Well I got it stripped down today. It was a little trickier than I expected. I had to remove the dryer unit (to get to one set of spider bolts) which was fiddly. It took me a while to figure out how to withdraw the spider. My wife pulled the inner drum forward from the front while I disengaged the spider from the shaft. Then I had to get one leg out the access hole then spin it round to get another leg out etc, etc.
Anyway, it was reasuring to note that the bearing closest to the seal was definately knackered. It was very rough compared to the outer bearing which was still running fine.
Next question is:- where is best for sourcing new bearings and seal? If there was anywhere in Norfolk/Suffolk/Cambs that I could collect on Monday, that would be great as I could get it back together quickly. Failing that, a good online retailer would be fine.

The bearing kit is one of the last two on this page HERE. Unfortunately the Bosch site is down at the moment, so cannot confirm which one you need. Contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk to sort it out promptly.

GregBut I don’t need the crossmember. From what I can see, a set of bearings and a seal are about £25 but the spider/bearings/seal assembly cost upwards of £140.
Surely bearing kit p/n BS05109 will do the job? A lot of the models listed under BS05109 are also listed under the spider kit p/n indicating that the bearings are the same.
Also, do the bearings require greasing or do they come ready to go?

Hi
Yes, after looking at the other models in shop@, BS05109 will do the job.
Odd that BSH don’t show a kit, would save a lot of money 👿Will get shop@ updated aswell Vendee, cheers.

Thanks, I’ve placed an order for the bearing kit with Shop@. Do the bearings need packing with grease? I assume that the seal will benefit from a smearing of sillicon grease where it runs on the shaft?

Water seal usually has some grease on it (white stuff) on its inner face.
Grease up slightly the bearing outers and drum shaft to make the job a tad easier.Greg
