Participantcustomer reported not spinning, i put it on a spin empty and it spun,

i checked the brushes, heater, pump wiring all ok,
pcb visibly ok,
suspect pcb any thoughts welcome.February 11, 2011 at 12:21 am #344287leavemetogetonwithit

Did it move at all with the load in?
Your test seems to suggest that the motor isn’t providing enough torque but that would be a rather unusual fault. Much more likely to be just an intermittent no motor action (tug around motor plug area, try pulling p/sw tube off) if it is a not moving at all fault.

I have had a similar fault a couple of times with bosch appliances and found that either one brush had worn down more than the other or that the brush wasn’t free enough in the holder after cleaning the brush holder and giving the brushes a quick rub over or replacing if needed the appliance worked fine, sometimes if copied brushes have been fitted they can be slightly bigger then the bosch ones also causing them to jam up

Yep, we’re talking brushes here. Change them and give the armature and brush holder a good clean-up with WD40 to clear any carbon dust and ensure no earthing insulation leak. 🙂

Only time I used WD40 for that purpose, on a Hpt WM series, it worked for one or two washes and then reverted to low insulation. Is there a way to do it reliably, as it would save a lot of work dismantling motor to clean properly?

Mike.TBH I don’t think so Mike. With Bosch motors (unlike Hotpoint W/M’s) the brush holder frame gets covered in carbon deposits. A quick blow can often ensure it increases the insulation properties. But as that brush holder is screwed inside the motor the only real option is to take it apart, drag it outside and blast it clean with a good dose of WD40. It only takes a few short minutes anyway, so well worth the effort really. 🙂
I don’t have any info on a wvt12842gb/06 as the Bosch site doesn’t recognise that model number? But other WVT’s don’t spin if the PCB senses low insulation. Hence why I suggest the need to look at the motor rather than suspecting the PCB. 😉

y be a wvti2842gb/06
it didnt try to turn at all with a load in it and wouldnt turn at all after the load was taken back out
i will go back and take a look at the brushes which are the common ones fixed on with 2 screws.on another identical machine in the same block of flats today its showing
E06 in the display anyone got any views on this one while i am on the subject?February 12, 2011 at 9:10 am #344293Martin

Ah now I see, this ain’t the machine I thought you were on about, it’s a Spanish rebadged heap of junk this one. Now, take a close look at the wiring harness to the motor as they are prone to breaking.
The E06 error is either a pump blockage or the air bell/air tube gunged up. I would advise checking BOTH to be sure OK?
HTH?:D

thanks, i am going to put the “faulty pcb” onto the one with e06 on it once i get blockage cleared to see if i get motor action.
these machines are fairly inaccesible but i will check the wiring again thanks.February 12, 2011 at 5:22 pm #344295suedehead1
ParticipantRe: bosch wvt12842gb/06
thanks for the help E06 was a 5p piece floating up and down the drain hose, i learned a valuable lesson, never remove the sump hose on one of these its impossible to refit.
put my “faulty pcb” on themachine and it worked perfectly.
i will now go back tommorrow to the other machine and put the pcb back on.
it must be motor brushes or wiring fault.February 13, 2011 at 4:01 pm #344296suedehead1
ParticipantRe: bosch wvt12842gb/06
just an update refiited the pcb tho the machine with no motor action,
tried it empty it spun put it on a wash and it overfilled, blew down the pressure switch tube and it was blocked. couldnt find the bell to clean it out it seems to be behind the concrete weight.
machine working fine now,
could it have just been a blockage in the pressure switch tube all along?February 13, 2011 at 4:23 pm #344297leavemetogetonwithit

could it have just been a blockage in the pressure switch tube all along?Yes…and it may happen again with the E06 . They are a right royal pain the the backside . Its a SMEG built pile of poop and there is no ‘bell/pressure chamber . The pressure switch hose is fitted directly to the front drum case and so as a result , the whole front panel needs to be removed to gain access to clean the pressure hose gasket should it get very ‘sludged’ up !!
Its a job i detest !!!

Not seen one of these but wouldn’t poking a bit of strimmer line down the tube with a repeated back and forth motion clear it well enough? Followed by a couple of service washes to make sure.
