Hi there and thanks in advance for any help i get. This machine is just over 9 years old and so far has had new brushes two years ago and a new pump last year. Now i have a problem with it over filling and the water constantly running through the tray even when the cycle is finished and i turn the machine off. I also get a strange grinding noise but not when the drum moves or anything like that and the pumps not running. I have also tried it on a 60degree wash and then felt the glass in the door but this felt cold and as i use a cold fill only it would seem its not heating the water. It maybe i need to get a new machine but any suggestions would be greatfully recieved and soon as the wife is ready to kill. Cheers

    I guess you speak of a WFL2000? 😕

That’s probably either got a faulty water inlet solenoid or a blockage in the water level chamber….or BOTH? The heating element will also need testing out with a meter I expect?

Yer sorry about the wrong name. I will have a look at the solinoid later and see if that is the problem and possible the noise as well. As for the heating element, will it be open circuit then or if its an expected resistance, what should that be if you know. I am assuming the solinoid can be inspected for a blockage and just needs replacing if its the problem.

OK the machine is a WFF2000 and i have checked the solinoid and yes it seems to stick open, if i wack it it slowely closes so i shall replace that…As for the heater i have measured the resistance and the open circuit voltage at it and i get 25 ohms and around 20v so any ideas there, i am guessing the voltage doesn’t sound right to me…..

It doesn’t to me either, I’m not sure how you’re reading that though? If you isolate the element completely you should get around 15-20 Ohms between the terminals. 240 volts will only be applied to the element during the heating phase of the cycle/timer anyway!

Ok, well the 25 ohms seems ok and the voltage was measured disconnected from the heater so it may not have been during the heating fase as i would have expected 240 volts too. I re-ran the machine with some water in and it heated up ok just took a while (didn’t leave it long enough before and maybe to much water in so temp less). need to source the hot water inlet solenoid now and only other concurn is if the pressure switch is working but worry about that once the solenoid is replaced. Thanks for your help and if you have any samsung mobile phone issues let me know lol.

    Hi
May I just say that we here on UKW do not condone or suggest LIVE testing on any appliance. There is absolutely no need, resistence readings should be more than enough to deduce a fault. 😉

Well thank you for your saftey concurns and yes i agree with you on that and as i am a qualified electronics engineer i am aware of the risks and took all the necessery saftey precausions. As for the machine i have now replaced the solenoid and the filling stops when it should but what i am now unsure about is the water level. The water fills at the start of the cycle and the deturgent is taken but the water level never becomes visable in the window. Now i realise these machnies are designed to use the minimum amounts or water necessery to wash the clothes but i am also concious that on most machines i have watched the water level usually fills to about half way up the window when washing. The pressure switch obviously works as it completes the cycle but is it possible the switch could have become over sensetive or something. I guess i am looking to get some idea as to how visable the water level should be through a normal 40 degree wash cycle. Cheers

    Hi Steve
The safety concerns were not directed solely at you. There will be other persons reading this post (hopefully 😀 ) that may not have the same ability as you or I.

Back to the fault…These newer machines now do only fill slightly below the door glass until the rinse and then you will see water slightly up the glass.
