ParticipantI bought a brand new Fridgemaster a few weeks back and have been having issues trying to maintain the correct temperature.
The dial goes up to 7, but no matter what what we set it too the temperature always lingers around 5 degrees. When the door has been opened, even for a second or two, it shoots up to around 7 and takes hours (overnight) to get back down to 5.
There is also a frost buildup on the back wall which only disappears of I adjust the dial to 5, but I’m trying to get the thing colder, not warmer.
Other issues I have noticed (potentially from changing the dial, not sure) is there has been water/condensation between some packaging when they’ve been on top of one another, and in a couple of cases we’ve had sealed food spoil before the sell by date.
It seems really unlikely that my brand new product would be dodgy, but I’m not sure what other conclusion I could formulate. I’m not sure what else to do…

Moderatordifferent parts of the fridge will be at different temps. Its an open box inside and hot air rises but what matters is the overall average. try putting a thermometer in a glass of water. that way it will not be affected by short term temp fluctuations

ParticipantI suppose my main concern is once opened, it seems to take ages and ages (over night) for the temperature to get cooler.
I actually have two different themometors and they are reading slightly differently…
The newer digital one is saying 5 degrees, 7 on average, but the glass one I was using before is showing it within the correctly marked “fridge” range.
I did the glass of water method
the other day as well and the glass themometors was showing correctly as well. For reference, they are both on the middle shelf (where recommended).
Aa an aside, should frost on the back wall be a concern?

Moderatorin order for the fridge to get cold enough the back wall has to go below freezing.and the higher you set the stat the colder it goes. When this happens the water vapour inside the fridge will condense and freeze on the wall. To eliminate this the fridge goes into defrost mode and only restarts the compressor when the rear wall rises to +2 degrees C. The ice melts and the water rolls down the rear wall and flows out of the back of the unit onto a tray on top of the compressor. since the compressor get hot this evaporates the water
cheaper household fridges are a compromise, industrial fridges have a fan to even out the temperature and a more powerful compressor
later self defrost fridge freezers also work slightly better .as the cold air is pulled from the freezer by a fan at -18. this means you have more power to cool the fridge quickly once the door is openedDave
