Purchased a Brandt Fridge/Freezer model number CFA311WU just over 12 months ago. I moved it yesterday and found out this morning that it has completely defrosted. The fridge or freezer aren’t getting cold, it’s blowing cool air through the vents on the back of the freezer and the compressor seems to be running. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem may be and a possible repair. Or if anyone in the Manchester area can come out and give it a once over.

    Many Thanks

Unfortuantey it sounds like you’ve lost the coolant…if that’s the case then at best it may be costly to repair, at worst it may be unrepairable.

How is it possible to lose the coolant. Aren’t these things sealed? How do I go about adding more coolant to the damn thing, and have you got an idea as to how much this might cost or is it best to ring my home insurer and tell them it met with an accident?

    Many Thanks

Yes, they are sealed when new but the internal pipework can corrode causing this which should that be the case it is not repairable. It may also have been damaged when moving it.

You also cannot add coolant without specialist refrigeration equipment I’m afraid.

Chek repairs@ for an engineer if you need one, I’m sure there are a few in Manchester area 🙂

Your suggestion of an Insurance claim may be possible if it was accidental damage and you are covered for this, worth a call I guess, they will send an engineer of their choice to verify normally.

    Dave.
