ParticipantI have a control panel failure on the above cooker hood, which is an old model, no longer in production or for sale. Unfortunately it is convex-shaped below the glass screen, and the tile surround has been cut to fit, so it cannot easily be replaced, hence the need to repair it, rather than replace.
I have substituted the replacement switch mechanism for the original, but the fault (only one speed works, and the button will not stay ON by itself) persists, so I suspect the electronics card is duff (a replacement came as part of the switch mechanism, so I suspect this is a common fault). Unfortunately, the card is situated above the “ceiling” over the fan motor, and apparently inside the casing of the extractor, which has a sliding square stainless cladding to the mechanism and chimney. How do I get to the card? Must I dismount the entire hood and pick the body of the fan mechanism to pieces? Any help would be greatly appreciated.November 20, 2016 at 10:13 am #442966electrofix

most cooker hoods you have to remove the chimney to access it
i am assuming in your case they have toiled up to it after it has been installed which may cause you a few problems

Worse than that, unfortunately: the wall cupboards were installed after the hood, and the chimney cannot be removed unless the adjacent cupboards are as well. It is for this reason that I hope someone with an intimate knowledge of this model can advise if the duff card can be accessed from within the casing of the extractor fan, rather than disassemble the whole thing. The eight strand communication cable between the switch bank and the card disappears through a hole in what I can only describe as the “ceiling” of the fan enclosure, but I cannot see any means of removing this panel, to access the card. Any ideas? Thanks.

that sounds weird it would mean the cupboards are over the heat of the hob

Not unusual in France. I will try to post the installation instructions and a photo. The main question is: when the chimney surround is removed, does this give access to the controller card, or must I take the whole works off the wall and disassemble to get to the card?

Can’t upload photos, but a very similar model – Brandt AD589X1 – is on view here:
