ParticipantI have had a Brandt Fridge Freezer from new for the last 4 years. During the course of the last week, the freezer part has stopped freezing. A pool of water also appears under the fridge. I have felt below the fridge but can find no ice collected there, however under the bottom draw in the freezer there is a sheet of ice. The top refrigerating area seems to be working ok. Any ideas on the cause and how to resolve?

It sounds like your drain hole is blocked and the ice is restricting the air flow… Defrost for 24-48hrs (pull the plug) and afterwards it should work. Call an engineer if it keeps blocking in the future.

Thanks for the responses.
In relation to the model of Fridge, all I have is a Brandt ”Apollo”. No other detail.
In terms of the ice restricting the air flow, the ice is gathered in the lowest part of the freezer, where there is no drain hole. The drain hole is contained in the upper part of the fridge and I’ve checked this and it is clear.
At the lower rear of the fridge, there is a black bowl object (excuse the ignorance but is this the compressor?). There is no noise coming from this at all, whereas when it was working it made a low(ish) hum. When I switch the fridge off at the electric, and then switch back on and nudge it slightly this starts to hum for 2/3 seconds and then switches off again? As it’s only 4 years old I’d be dissapointed if this has broken down – or is this a trait of these types of units?
Thanks again for your assistance.

The model number is inside the fridge beside the salad bin 🙂
There may be a drain hole in the freezer if the unit is frost free which is why the model number is crucial.

Thanks Dave.
I’m at work at the moment so I will have to check the model no later today. It is a frost free unit but I can’t see a drain hole anywhere in the frezer part however I will confirm the number later.
Thanks again.

It’s certainly a frost free model 🙂
In that case, follow MKR’s advice and carry out a complete defrost, there is excesssive ice behind the freezer rear panel and the drain hole is blocked.
If it happens again then there is a defrost problem which will require an engineer to check, the repairs@ link below should provide one.
Dave.
