I have a double oven Britannia Range cooker. When cooking in the main oven the digital timer cuts out, causing the oven to stop heating. After a pause the timer restarts and the oven begins to heat up again. The smaller oven is not affected. Initially I thought this must be a faulty digital timer but on reading further into the issue on these forums, I am beginning to think that it might be the thermal cut out device, either doing what it’s supposed to do or cutting the power because its faulty. I’d appreciate any advice on this issue or perhaps some guidance about how to narrow down my diagnosis. Many thanks in advance.

Is the cooling fan cutting in, assuming it has one, as if not that’d be why the overheat protection is shutting it down and then restarting after it has cooled a bit.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it does have a cooling fan & I’m fairly certain that it is cutting in but I’ll double check that. Funnily enough, the indicator light (located close to the timer) overheated & burnt out recently, so I’m beginning to think that the cooling fan may be cutting in too late or not blowing as efficiently as it should.

An indicator light burning out is unusual as they only draw a tiny current. I’d say things are getting far hotter up top than they should be and that certainly points to the cooling fan itself or its thermostatic switch.
