    Hi,

I have an issue with a 100cm Britannia range cooker, model SI-E10T-SS. The left oven has started tripping the RCD when the selector is in 2 of the 9/10 positions, quickstart and fan oven. I think the fan is good as the fan and grill position works fine so I think it could be the selector switch based on reading the forums but was wondering if someone could assist?

I’ve taken the top off and there is nothing visually untoward, nothing burnt or anything. Looking at the site this switch looks the most likely. http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/a03408-oven-function-selector-switch

I have pictures of the switch if that would help. Am I on the right track? I would prefer to try and fix this myself rather than get an engineer round, I’m a bit nervous of the Corona virus at the moment and want to limit our unnecessary exposure.

It’s all too likely to be the switch from what you describe and, if it looks like that, that’s the one as there are not any others that look like those.

It could also be whatever is switched at that position though, as in what else is energised when whatever is switched on, including lighting etc.

oven tripping most of the time tend to be elements

position 2 is your quick start postion. that as far as i know is only meant for pre heating

are you sure that none of the other positions trip ?

Yes it was position 2 and 3 only. I didn’t think it was any of the elements as each element worked on another position. However I’ve put the cooker back together and it is now working fine. I can’t believe that I have actually fixed so will wait for it to start going again and then revisit.

Thanks for the help so far.

you would need to figure out what is special about thos 2 positions since postion 2 is quick start and 3 is fan oven then these 2 position may be the only place the fan oven element is used. I dont know because i do not know what other postions you have without the owners manual or seeing the knob decals

I replaced the switch with the one from this site and it made little difference, it still trips on positions 2 and 3, although I think it may also have tripped on another setting but I don’t know which as my wife did it. Any ideas what to do next? Scattergun approach and replace components until fixed starting with fan element? I tried calling a local repairman but he wasn’t really interested in fixing it so might as well spend the money trying myself.
