ParticipantHi,
Have recently moved to a house with a 2004 90cm electric oven /gas hob Britannia range: SI-9T6-L-G
All seems to be working, have checked individually heat comes in all individual modes and fan oven is working fine. But the “fast preheat” option recommended in the manual doesn’t seem to work – it heats up to around 150 (slowly) and then doesn’t seem to increase from there, even 30/40 minutes after turning on. Switching to true fan it quickly heats up like a normal oven.
I’m not sure what the quick preheat does and how it differs from normal oven mode so I’m not sure what could explain this. Any suggestions on what part might need replaced?
The fan is also quite loud and a tiny bit rattly. Would this likely be the main oven fan and would replacing this make it quiter?
Thanks for any help,

KeymasterI’d need to know what cooking mode you’re using it on and the ART number of the cooker as well to help. Though I suspect the bottom element or top outer is failed.
Quick preheat, I think, should bring on all elements till it hits temp but I’ve not used that so do not know.
What the ART is explained here:

ParticipantThanks very much for the reply.
So True Fan and Grill mode both work absolutely fine and stuff is cooked as we expect and the thermometer cuts the oven on and off like we would expect. The problem is only with the quick preheat function – it just doesn’t seem to preheat quickly it seems to be slower than just putting on True Fan mode, and with the thermo set to say 200, it never seems to get above 150 (from turning to where it clicks out).
We haven’t cooked anything with only upper or only lower, but I have turned on those modes from a cold oven and felt the respectiev area getting warm so I thought they are both working (but haven’t gone to high temps I just wanted to see if they started getting warm in that mode). I’m not sure what top outer is.
ART is

KeymasterThey call the modes all sorts of weird stuff, makes no odds what they call them really.
The upper element is in two parts an inner and an outer, the outer is also the upper heating element in static oven mode. And there’s a bottom element below the floor of the inner oven cavity that also heats on that mode and, I suspect the quick heating function.

ParticipantWhat mode should I test the inner upper element? I think the outer upper definitley heats up. Is there a mode that should be inner upper only so I can see if that is working (maybe the preheat relies on that).

KeymasterThe centre upper is used on grilling only.
If anything it’s probably the bottom element that’s gone.
