ModeratorWhilst watching t.v. last night an advertisment for British Gas gas came on in which the main character portrayed by Ricky Tomlinson who appeared to be a British Gas instructor was suggesting to his class of students that anyone other than British Gas operatives were cowboys.
As there was no mention of illeagal cowboys, I can only assume that he was refering to any other Corgi registered gas installer.
I must say that the statement is a bit rich, coming from a buisiness that was advertised almost weekly on t.v. by such programes as ” That’s Life” & “Watchdog” for thier inefficeint and sometimes even downright dangerous service. It will be interesting to see Corgi’s response to this latest campain.
Perhaps representations should be made to the advertising standards agency by members of Ukwhitegoods as many of our members are Corgi registered and carry out gas work. YOUR VIEWS PLEASE !Regards as Ever Del

I would like to see this before I comment directly about this to be honest.
I would say one thing though, the restrictions on what advertisers can and can’t say has been lifted a lot over the last few years. I remember when they weren’t allowed to mention the name of the direct competition at all, now they’re all at it, and I would assume a company in BG’s position would have had the advert checked out by lawyers before transmission, but you never know.
I would imagine there is a huge grey area around what would be seen as an “accusation” as oppossed to an “implication”.
But like I say, I haven’t seen it yet.

ParticipantAre you alluding to the partaking of illicit and nefarious substances, perchance? I may have to ask you to accompany me to the station, my lad!
Tee hee,

Someone else took the same offence to this rather dubious piece of advertising (yes I’ve seen it now) and complained in the current Corgi mag.
BG have written in reply 😉

By the time anyone from Corgi (or individual Corgi members for that matter) forward their complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority(A.S.A.) BG’s ad will have run its course anyway!
My advice therefore is not to wear a Sheriffs Badge or carry a gun when you knock on a customers door! 😉

How appropriate this thread for me to share a little ‘incident’ I had with a ‘British Gas Engineer’ today: –
I was driving (with window open due to hot weather) up to a mini roundabout. I nudged out rather forcefully perhaps (well I was in a hurry) and the British Gas Van had to hit the brakes a bit smartish to let me by. And in full cry says to me “Are you some kind of f*****g prat mate?”.
….to which I replied YES but your f*****g ugly!”
Cowboy meets sheriff perhaps or is it the other way round ?… dunno 😕
