I think Warren Thompson just dropped himself in it.
If you don’t know what I’m on about, take a look at his posting earlier today. More or less admitted they are tarred with a similar brush.
I’ve a feeling I won’t be on his Xmas card list.

I cannot believe that the British Gas Homecare – Beware!! thread has turned into a bloody debacle 👿
The idea of the thread was for Public Input and how the fucking hell can they comment now with all that tripe put in???? What are they supposed to add to the debate..eh?
If you want press and media attention on our side it needs sorting. If you want BG to continue on its way then carry on, let the cock-up continue :haier:
But Ken, I urge you to move those comments into the thread within the trade forum. (Move all comments starting from Woz’s first post ) then lets try to get more public comment, press and media attention, google goggling BACK into that thread*….please 🙂
Martin
*I spent over 2 sodding hours on the phone to flamingblue to get her input. (I even suggested the alias…get it?) She did me proud and I want to see something good to come from my efforts hereJanuary 20, 2005 at 9:53 am #123446kwatt

Martin,
There’s enough juice in that to get attention along with a bit of intrigue as well and the exposure of what is, to me, a very questionable and sharp practise on the part of BG.
Woz sent it off course with his post, it’s that simple.
But you have to remember that whilst we can steer certain threads we cannot control them and I WILL NOT delete the comments as to do so is wrong. You cannot move individual comments or posts either, only the full thread.
Free speech. It has it’s pros and cons like anything else.

I must admit it is losing the plot slightly, Woz got me going on that one, and I suppose there should be a seperate thread relating to how companies are pulling away our rescources.
We need to construct something to put us back on track I suppose.

Yeah tell me about it, I throw my hands up in despair on this one though 🙁
The thread is dead, its whole potential is lost, free speech has seen to that 👿

OK!
I have calmed down over the problems I had last week on this. It is going well as far as Google and Co are concerned, enough at least to cause ‘rumblings’ shall we say.
Can I please ask therefore, please do try to add anything that you ‘feel’ the public should know on the subject. I from time to time (with your approval that is?) will ‘slip in’ the ‘odd’ fact in order to give them a hard time.
Fly on the wall????? ……usually we splat them anyway don’t we????
Least in this case we will if I have anything to do with it 😀

I want to keep this live as well, but we want to try & keep it relevant.
Mr Fly on the wall, who has moved over to them is in darkest Rotherham this week traing a bit more so we may not learn anything from him for a while.
One tit-bit though, he has been in regular contact with one of my Techs. Apparently there is a new logging system coming into effect Feb, they will pass one call only at a time, when the engineer finishes his call and downloads his info from the terminal, they will then pass the next call. He is well pissed off, they have him on a tracker system and now this. Before he worked for me he was self employed, I’ve since learned he kept up his private work and made his own calls between doing a day’s work for me. Now he can’t do that. Tee Hee.
I’m waiting to see if he will be posting anything, so may be interesting to see what he may have to say.
In the meantime though as Martin says, let’s not get sidetracked on the public forum. If I get any feedback from customers I will point them to UKW.

Hunker down in the trenches guys as this is gonna be a long hard slog fighting BG on any level.
I’m not saying it’s not worthy of the effort or that it is in vain by any stretch but it will take time to win the day here.
But I’ve been thinking….

Some tosser of a British Gas engineer called to replace the Door Seal on a Zanussi FLS1225W to one of their ‘Homecare’ customers in the Reading 6 weeks ago. He took the old seal off right enough but then try as he might he couldn’t fit the new one. He came back twice once with his ‘supervisor’ and together both of them could not fit the door seal 👿
The customer was well pissed off by that time as they had made 3 calls over a 2 week period but still they could not get it back on. She asked them to leave and promptly phoned her husband at work. He found the UKW website speak on BG Homecare and got my name through reading its many pages. He emailed me for my advise and I promptly ordered a door seal and went out today to fit it.
They have made a right dogs dinner of trying to fit their door seal as there were screwdriver grooves in the front drum half where they tried ‘levering it on’. Also they threw away the wash pump inlet pipe hose clamps, so I fitted jubilee clips in their place. I asked if they had used any washing-up liquid to ease it on and the customer said no! :rotfl:
Needless to say when I got there the customer was a little cautious on my arrival, but when I asked for the washing up liquid then fitted the seal in roughly about 15mins total (lousy job I must admit but…) she was gobsmacked!!!!!!

Martin, you seem to be lucky in finding these.
Is there any mileage in getting the customer to follow in the footsteps of Flaming Blue? I know for sure if I get one, I will give the customer a little encouragement.

I went on a spying mission last night. There was a nice colourful advert in the Sits-Vac section of the Somerset County Gazette.
Brit Gas recruitment doing an open evening at the Holiday Inn J25 M5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Come along for a presentation, see how we work, chat to existing engineers & electricians, and we can arrange an informal interview on the spot. They were looking for white-goods engineers as well as IEE electricians.
Needless to say I went just to see if there was any one there I knew. (They would have been embarrassed next morning). Fortunately there wasn’t, I should have known better. (Must be paranoid)
They soon told us this was the only recruitment drive in this area for the whole South-west from Swindon to Lands End. The presentation was good, informal, showed all the benefits etc. the whole package was shown. Wages before bonuses £20,553 and O.T.E. £27,500 but he made it clear that was only achievable if full bonus and customer care criteria had been met. He said that would be hard to get in a rural area. There were refreshments laid on and without it being a brainwashing session, quite positive in approach etc.
The audience consisted of about 10 electrical contractors and 3 White-Goods techs. including myself. I made some excuse I was probably too old, they were having none of it and was interested in my past from Sparky to White-Goods. I told them I was running a centre for someone else, and wanted to be discreet, which they respected. I might have landed a job if I wasn’t careful. All I gave was my Christian name, but they did see I had a repair-care pen, a ploy of mine to get them guessing.
One of the white-goods hopefuls walked out as soon as the presentation ended, another stayed for interview. I just mingled for an hour and then slipped off on the pretence of going to the loo.
It would have been great if I could have got the details of the guy who stayed, it would have been fantastic to have pulled this guy out from under their noses.
Point is folks, keep an eye out in your local press, and go along yourself. You never know who you might meet.

Had a phone call today on the spares line which I answered. Went like this….
“Hi there, this is British Gas, can I have a part number please for a bit on a Zanussi”
“No, but if you have a credit card and got the model details, I can sell you the bit”
“Oh, I don’t want the part from you, I’m a British Gas Engineer, and need a part number for a job I’m doing. My office has told me I have to get the part number, so they can order me the bit. They suggested I phone you for the number”
“Cheeky lot. Tell whoever in your office, and you aint getting that info from me. I don’t give out part numbers, and most certainly not to Brit Gas. If they want a part, then credit card details will be needed from them, then I can supply the bit”
Strangely they haven’t come back to me.
