    Hi Again,

before I go ahead and replace our lovely old Britrania fridge freezer. The Brittania Engineer Diagnosed a leak somewhere in the gas system, and it uses an obsolete gas, therefore can’t be fixed. I’m just sense checking this advice with your unbiased experience.

    many thanks

older gasses are blamed for damage to the ozone layer so are no longer produced

add to the mix that you have a gas leak somewhere and unless it is found then any gas you charge it with will be lost

if you want to be certain about the gas advice look on the rating plate and all fridge gasses as far as I know are R something. R12 is a very early gas that did deplete the ozone layer. you can then research the gas type or post it back here and I am sure one of the refrigeration experts will tell you

but there is still a possible leak

Thanks Dave, that’s the crux of the issue, can a leak be fixed? The Eng that came said no. Something about corroding joints.

there is sometimes a way round the gas problem but fixing a leak depends on where it is. The other question is are other joints that are not leaking yet about to start

you could be throwing good money after bad

if you want a reliable make from todays ranges look at

    https://www.liebherr.com/en/gbr/products/refrigeration-freezing/refrigeration-freezing.html

they also produce the fridges for Miele another well known reliable brand
