Brittania oven failure – pre Xmas advice please….

Good afternoon folks,
i’m hoping for a Hail Mary, before we are descended upon by most of the family for Christmas. We inherited a brittania si series 100cm dual fuel range when we boutght our house in June, it’s about 16 years old.

Pretty quickly we ran into issues with the fan oven, eventually it failed. I replaced the fan oven element a week ago and we were up and running again after I reset the clock. Managed to cook pizzas on the Friday night but then suffered a failure again on the Saturday. This time the oven display was completely blank, no oven function, fan or lights regardless of switch position. Checked the new element and it doesn’t look like it has failed so decided to order a new selector switch and fit it, moving cable for able to make sure nothing was miss connected.

Now that the new switch has been installed we’re seeing some improvement, but only in that the oven light now comes on at every switch position. Still no heating, fan or clock display, there doesn’t seem to be any voltage getting to the display unit from the selector switch regardless of selected position.

Am I in big trouble here? Time to replace the whole thing? Any other parts I could try to replace? Grumpy wife is getting grumpier at the prospect of fish and chips for Xmas dinner…….

Thanks for the response Kwatt, we’re away from the house today but will post the details when we get back tomorrow. Thought I’d taken a picture of the tag on the oven door but sadly I haven’t!

Thanks for the pointer on the clock, What’s confusing me is that I suspect that as the clock is part of the fan oven heating supply circuit it should be driven by a permanent voltage being supplied from the switch? (Maybe I’m naive & confused!) at least there is a red jumper cable between the two that looks like it should be the supply. My “no contact” voltage detector pen doesn’t seem to be picking up supply voltage to the clock regardless of the switch position. How would I go about testing the clock to see if its ruined? I have a multi-meter so if there is a simple process I could follow it?

Also I note on the ukwhitegoods shop it mentions that the timer can be by-passed, any experience of doing this? At least this would get me cooking in time for xmas……

The clock is, in short, a fancy mains switch.

They can be by-passed but, for safety reasons, I can’t explicitly tell you how to do that but, if you have got the knowledge to do so, you have the knowledge to work out from the above and the connections what to do.
