    Hello there.

Apologies for not registering. I will do so soon because this appears to be a very valuable resource.

I was directed here from http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin.

Anyway, here’s my joe public query:

“So we’ve got an Indesit 1400 decent thing, with a computer thing telling it what to do.

The computer thing has stopped working inextricably. It forgets what it was doing and starts a different cycle, or worse recently, it can’t tell the washing machine to drain.

It’s 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} the computer (or whatever it’s called) rather than pipes or anything else. It’s about 5 years old. I’ve emptied the machine when it’s off through the pipes out the back door using gravity.

Is it worth getting someone to look at it? How much will that cost? Or should I chuck it and get another one? I’m guessing they’ve gone down in price now and should be £300/£400 which makes it not the end of the world.

    Anyone got any advice?”

Are you getting any error messages or flashes? It could be as simple as a blocked or failing drain pump, not very expensive to repair.

There is a filter behind the kickboard at the front of the machine. Definitely worth checking before condemning the machine outright. Hand, knees and torch required, check right back into the impellor chamber for small objects. These will allow water to drain by gravity, but prevent the pump from running.

We professionals are kept in business by the 5p, kirby grip, hair bobbles and the underwired bra!

Thanks for your help so far. We did get an error message but don’t any longer. We *think* it was F-15, but may be mistaken…

    We’ve been looking though.

The thing is, it sometimes stops the cycle completely, or chooses a completely different cycle, and it never ever drains (unless I stick it out the back door and let the water run out of the pipe….)

Have you checked the filter as suggested? If it appears empty, with the filter removed, set the machine to spin only and observe whether or not the pump actually runs. If the impellor whirls round, it implies that there is a blockage somewhere else in the system. If it doesn’t, the pump may have failed or not be getting power.

The programme will stop at any spin point in the programme if water is detected in the machine – you can imagine what would happen if it did kick off into spin 😀 .

    Regards,

Thank you very much for your advice. I was on the brink of throwing out Indesit out. Read your post and found all sorts of rubbish in the filter. Cleaned it out and hey presto – the pump works like a beauty!

    Many thanks again.

    Re: Broken INDESIT evolution 1400 we14 – should I chuck it o

Thanks for the reply penguin. I’ve been on holiday.

I lifted the machine up and looked behind the kickboard. There’s a long screw attaching an black rubber piece to the drum. The drainage tube is attached to a cylindrical black and grey thing.

I don’t know what a filter looks like, or rather I don’t know what a washing machine filter looks like – and nothing seems to come out easily.

I know I’m being quite seriously thick here, but I keep returning to it and can’t find a filter behind the kickboard – I could disconnect the grey and black thing but I don’t understand how I can let it run without the filter then – if that makes sense.

I’m also aware that I am likely to be presently being a frustrating poster.

Do you not have the user manual still ?

It describes in there how to check the filter. From memory, on the right hand side near the floor.

    Re: Broken INDESIT evolution 1400 we14 – should I chuck it o

I was lifting it up and everything. I feel a bit thick now that I know how to clear the filter – assuming I’ve done it right.

I think I’ve cleared the filter and it’s doing a bit of a test now – there was a 2 Eurocent piece in it and a load of muck.

If it’s fixed, I’ll not post on here – but thank you very much to penguin and dave for their help. I really would’ve just bought a new machine.

If it’s not fixed, I’ll keep you updated on my (imbecilic) progress.

    Thanks again.

Let us know either way please if you wouldn’t mind 😀

It may help someone in the future who may read this.

    Thanks

It works, and I feel pretty stupid. It didn’t work after removing the peeny, so we looked far deeper and found a small stick, smaller than a cocktail stick.

The electric part then wouldn’t choose the program I was pointing the dial at for about 24 hours, but then it seemed to sort itself out.
