brushes for miele W842 washing machine

I have received the brushes (ML12102) and a commi stick from UK Whitegoods OK but notice that the brushes are very stiff in the holders, is there a reason for this and how may they be freed up?

Is there a brass tag that has to be lifted u to free them in holder by any chance ? If not give them a rub of fine emery paper on the sides of brush when its extended out, this should free them a little.
