ParticipantMy mum has a Moffat gas hob with drop down glass lid which she loves. However, it is very old and she is in the process of replacing her built in gas oven and wants to replace her hob at the same time. Trying to find her an oven is bad enough as there appear to be none available to view in showrooms, but I can not find ANY gas hobs which have a glass (or any other) lid any more. The one she has has a cut-out safety facility. Has there been some new regulation passed which means she can’t get one now? If not, does anybody know where she can get one from? She complained that her friend has one but it is not the same as her friend has a free-standing gas cooker, not a built in hob!!

Hi
Gas hobs with lids have not been around for some time now. If mum lives in a flat then she will need to replace the existing hob with one one which has a flame safety device fitted, which ensures that if the flame is extinguished accidentally the device kicks in to stop the escape of gas. Even is she is not in a flat a hob with a fsd is a good idea anyway.
Gas built in ovens are limited to Belling, New World and Stoves. Low volume sales ensures high prices I`m afraid.
HTH 🙂

you could always opt to a free standing cooker, not that hard to convert, that is assuming the oven is directly below the hob,you would then have a wider choice.HTH 8)

ahhhhh
ive just remembered that portway have their own gas built in single oven now. very basic but must be a lot cheaper. worth asking a non-euronics independant if portway are one of their suppliers (only applies to bottom half of english retailers i think)
